After watching the highlights of our game against Boro. I feel our midfield is more balanced with mcarthur and Ledley with puncheon in the advanced role. Cabaye form has certainly drop since the turn of the year. I just feel he doesn't deserve his place back until he proves it. Your thoughts From what I saw yesterday, McArthur was often the farthest forward of the midfield central three, with Puncheon playing in a quarterback style role to receive the ball from the defenders. I went as far as checking the heatmaps of each player (it's incredible you can see this level of information). While it's not conclusive, it does tend to back up my theory. I watched the game with the sound down as the commentary was knackered. This really helped me to follow the game more closely, I'd recommend it.

Cabaye is quality. He should start when fit.

McArthur is the key for us, understated and classy.

We didn't keep the ball that well on Saturday. But when we had it we used it well. Cabaye and Mac is still our best central midfield IMO.

I agree, MacArthur and Cabaye are the best pairing but Ledley and Flamini provide genuine competition. I can see Flamini coming off the bench for Cabaye quite often when we are looking to close games out.

A fit Cabaye plays we are better with him and McArthur. It looks to me like he has been 75% fit for a long time so i would give him time to get back to his best before starting him.

We are 100% better without Cabaye taking any set pieces.

Absolutely correct, when McArthur plays the tempo is up, and our surrounding players work harder. Reminds me of when Geoff Thomas used to play and how he upped everyone's game. Difference to our team is tenfold when McArthur plays. Also I like that Pardew played him as an attacking mid rather than box to box. If we can get more of our players closing down opposition higher up the pitch we will become extremely difficult to beat. Obviously not everyone has McArthur work rate but he makes a big difference and is key to our team.

Cabaye was part of the team that started last season so well. Ledley had a good game yesterday but Cabaye undoubtedly has more quality. I'd be interested to see Flamini starting in place of either and see how he does, could be a combination of Ledleys strength and Cayabes passing. Doubt he'll play every game due to age, but think he may well start or finish games in one of theirs positions. Nice to see we have three players fighting for possibly one position.
