Yes, I was unsettled to see Wilf showing off a hugely impressive car in the transfer window whilst we were hearing that he wanted a better deal. But I guess that players compare their bling and I suppose we have to pay the going rate.

Zaha signed a 5 year contract 2 years ago and at the time would have been one of the best paid on our books (as we had to offer him parity with his Man U wages). Clearly in the last 2 years wages have gone mad so his agent is obviously stirring things to get a pay rise BUT i suspect his current salary will have monetary incentives for wins, goals and maybe assists so if he did more of them he would get better paid. Obviously Benteke's huge wages will have every Palace players agent asking for pay rises for their clients but if say we went down this season would those players take a pay cut? Of course not. I haven't got an issue giving some players more money but would like a larger % of the increase incentivised. Zaha has IMHO still to develop into a consistent performer and at 23 he should be getting there by now.

He needs to be more consistent and score more goals. So he needs to produce more displays like yesterday so that these become the norm not the exception. When starts to do this then his contract situation / wages should be addressed If he plays like he did Saturday, on a regular basis, we'll have a world class player on our books. Its the only thing that's really held him back is consistency. I'm not so worried about goals he scores, but his final ball into the box. He was absolutely electric on Saturday, and his cross for Beneteke was only second to Payets assist in quality. His goal was pretty special too, great use of strength, skill and pace. If he can put that kind of performance two out of every three games, we'll have trouble keeping hold of him. He looked like the kid who dominated the championship defences for fun.

His speed was scary. Or more like, make it worth for both sides, keep his salary as is but give him 10-15k for every goal he scores, 5k for every assist. Edited by paperhat (12 Sep 2016 12.13pm)

Players will start to play selfishly and not, for example, pass the ball to a team mate who is in the clear. Need to be careful with incentive based pay.

Sako was reportedly seeking 70 with competition for his signature. That must stick in Wilf's throat. He was badly advised/we did well to bring him back on a 5-year since he can't wait/sulk it out without ruining his own career. We should give him a big bump for 2 years more. Within the disgusting context of modern football it is the right thing to do. PS: THIS is predicated on media reporting that could, of course, be bollox

It's still September. I'm sure all those involved have been in contact. Wouldn't be surprised to see something happen in a couple of months. There's no rush.
