Am I wrong or is this really old news. Either way f*ck them. It's the councils land. Why should milwall be making revenue off it at the expense of the council. Local jobs created with a station etc that can only be a good thing. What makes a football club entitled to that land?

I only skim read it but I don't get it. The land belongs to the council Millwall (for some reason) commissioned architects to look into what they could do with it, without having any ownership. Now they somehow seem to think they have some sort of rights over it? On that basis, I may get some architects in to have a look at next door's garden - I quite fancy it

I definitely won't be signing. Nothing to do with Millwall personally. If it was Brighton or any of the other scum it wouldn't matter if it was somehow a legitimate complaint. This is council land that Millwall want to try and make money off. But haven't come up with any plans. And want to pay less than the council can get commercially for the property. And don't want to provide the same sort of local stimulus that the development will offer. But want to do it anyway and are relying on the fact that councils don't like to pi$$ off football clubs for fear of negative press.

imagine that, being able to buy a house or live in the Den's car park. Sounds quaint.

The council could save Millwall fans by building a Police Station, Magistrates court, DHSS, Wetherspoons and battered women's shelter.

I signed it. Millwall have their place in the world Absolutely - but this proposal doesn't threaten the club. It just doesn't allow them to earn more money at the local tax payers expense. Millwall had commercial designs on the property and wanted to make money out of it. But were willing to offer less for it and do less for the community with it.

Compulsory purchase so ordered. [gavel bang] Truly, I'm not sure why the rallying cry to football fans to try and stop this. It was a business (Millwall FC) trying to hold on to property it wanted to use for business purposes. CPOs are controversial intrinsically, but it's not like Millwall was being bulldozed out of existence (as much as that thought warms my cockles).

Berylson always had half an eye on the real estate in my book. When the council found an alternative plan more appealing he played the community card. Is it true it threatens their future? Yeah but only in the sense it diminishes their (and his) future potential if he can't come up with a better deal. Oh well.
