If left untreated it can and will kill you. Even with the intervention of treatment it can still kill. A Bit like saying to someone with cancer if you fight hard enough and have enough treatment you will get better. Well that's true in some cases for others the illness is simply too aggressive , too advanced and it will eventually take their life. Believe me its taken me a bloody long time to get to.the point in my life where I can sit here and say that confidently. Just read the autobiography of Eric Clapton, guess that's how it is. He says (or said in 2007) that he'd been dry for 20 years. But he knew a lot of people who had lost the fight.

I was never fortunate to watch him play as I am too young but amongst the praise it really rankles me that we (cpfc) are the club that is helping him and sticking by him during thick and thin only to have it thrown back in our faces by him keep pouring his love to get back and do something for arsenal. As far as I understand they washed there hands with him but have left the door open to a return upon his continued sobriety. I dunno what it is I hope he continues and re finds the work in punditry but to jump to them after all our help just tastes sour.

He was the best and remains the best full back I have ever seen. I remember when he broke into the team as a very young teenager; absolute class. We hope the great man is able to get real help for the problem so he is remembered for all the right reasons. Kenny, thank you for making the team of the eighties such a great team.

Oh for another of his quality.

Kenny just oozed class on the pitch. Can't recall him ever putting a foot wrong and without doubt the best full back I've seen, in fact one of the most comfortable players with a football I've ever seen.

Sad to see some of the heartless comments on here. I remember watching this lightning bolt of a LB streaking down the left wing match after match - with the biggest smile - etched in my memory. God bless you Kenny. I'm praying for you.

Kenny's issues with drinking are way more serious than making you feel good about yourself.

My daughter goes to university at Wembley Stadium and Kenny was there a few week ago. He said he was two months dry. I guess this must be a major success for him. Good luck to him.

Any kind of pressure can send an Alcoholic back to a bad place. The help should start by not standing by and letting someone guzzle down those pints etc. in the first place.......
