As an Irish based season tkt holder,we'll have seen a lot of McCarthy over the last few seasons and let me tell you...we don't rate him ! Has consistently failed to live up to his reputation in last couple of years. Doesn't command the midfield like a proper CM should and rarely plays anything other that laterally and backwards. Hugely over rated and when I say that Jeff Hendrick totally outshone him at the Euros ( yes,the Derby guy !) that tells you all u need to know..stay clear!

I think Dundalk is giving us good advice. If he is being let go, must be a reason!

I wondered (apart from his injury record) why Koeman (who's a shrewd judge) would see him as disposable. I thought it was likely to be a formational change that left him surplus to requirements or the purchase of someone who fulfilled his role better. But it's also possible he's lost something since his injuries last season.
If we pursue this, the medical will be critical imo.

Shock! EPL player better for club than country. That covers the whole England squad. Judge on Everton performances.

Yes because that's how football works , couldn't be that Koeman doesn't fancy him because he doesn't suite the style of player he wants or any number of reasons!!! McCarthy is very much a no frills midfielder who keeps his passing simple keeping possession and works very hard, but isn't that creative , very similar to McCarthur in my opinion , so in terms of creativity he isn't the answer , but if we want to strengthen the middle and perhaps move cabaye further upfield he is though , would be a good replacement for Jedi.

Were you saying the same about Benteke?

McCarthy is a terrific player. I am not sure - if we have a limited budget - that his position should be the focus. But if he were available he would definitely improve our team.

McCarthy McArthur Cabaye

Zaha Townsend

Benteke

Reserve: Ledley, Mutch, Punch, Chung, Sako, Williams

Take two players out of that starting midfield and I think we look pretty weak, so strength in depth is still an issue there. I'd definitely have him.

I think it depends on whether we sign a creative mid or not.

Not sure whether McCarthy is a DM, or a creative playmaker, or a bit of both?

Bit too similar to MacArthur! Ledley as back-up more than good enough (Euro 2016 showed that).
