Someone like Robson-Kanu then? Actually I don't think he'd be bad as fourth choice striker.

I agree - problem might be his wages, didn't he turn down mental money from the Chinese league? Not worth it if he wants 50k a week to sit on the bench

I think young would be perfect for the reasons you've stated but the big difference between him and the others is that legislation the fee would be more modest, there's no sell on value so I suspect it won't happen. Seems that's our focus and I don't think it's a bad one. Hope I'm wrong because I think his experience would be a fantastic addition.

A quick google re the benteke fee, I think I'm right in saying only Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, man city and Arsenal have paid bigger fees for a player (if we count it as 32 mil). I'm not sure in the big scheme of things what that means but it's worth noting - we are a long way from being as established a premier league team as the likes of Everton, Tottenham, Southampton etc. It's a lot of money but I still think it's good business given his ability and age etc. Well done the board again.

Anyway, the transfer has cost me a small fortune too since I'm on holiday in New York and have been checking the benteke thread every 20 minutes.

Good post - well said.
Glad to see appreciation for the board who've delivered once again. I was really hacked off by the spate of disrespectful/abusive comments in the latter stage of the window when news of departures wasn't matched by any arrivals. There's a lot of excited posts now, but not many apologies from the guys who let frustration get the better of them. Maybe a thread should be set up to give them the opportunity to say Sorry & Thanks.

Just read that Hull are interested in taking Jay Rodriguez from Southampton on a season long loan. I think this would be good business for us with an option to buy in Jan or next summer if successful. Different sort of player to Wickham and Benteke but I think, with game time, could be very good for us.

Where is the vital missing link?

Little or nothing mentioned about our desperate need for a creative midfielder.

If we don't invest in one, admittedly good ones are thin on the ground, we can buy Benteke, Remy, Robson-Kanu and Uncle Tom Cobley but it will be useless without decent supply.

We can't go on relying on crosses and corners for our meagre tally of goals even if we had the combined talents of Benteke, Crouch and Carroll and any other tall striker.

Until we do we must give Lee a good run as we have no one else while Jonny Williams is injured.

For me, it's players who still feel they have something to prove. Relegated, but keen to show they are Premier League, such as Jimmy Mac, Dann. Or are keen to show their previous club that they were wrog not to feature them , such as Chamakh,, Punch, and now Benteke.
I'm not keen on players on the way down, just looking to extend their earnings another season. Hence not Nasri. Ashley Young was just a photoshop/twitter wind up I thought. But if serious, I think he's more in the payday category.
Juan Mata though does have a point to prove, and he does apparently like London, as a cultured man who likes to travel around without being recognised too much.

In an ideal world, and I mean in an ideal world I would really love to see Isalm Slimani as our other striker playing off or along side Benteke. As for a replacement for Jedi, Roberto Pereyra

I think Mata is on his way to being a regular starter under Mourinho, but good shout nonetheless.

Realistically, I'd say Slimani to be the next striker in through the door.

Not sure who is next but I would say with the departures we are currently needing 5 players.
