I can never understand how people who have had their license taken away automatically get it back after the ban has been served. If you have your license taken away it is obvious that you don't know how to drive. Therefore you should have to pass a driving test before being allowed back on the road. You can be banned, with a Test Pass requirement or extended Test Passed. This is generally reserved for incidents of dangerous driving, but can be applicable to any dangerous driving offence (including penalty points accumilated). The Test Pass, requires that the individual pass their driving test again. The extended test pass requires additional testing beyond that of the normal test. Its most common where new drivers have accumulated 6 points within two years. Or if you're a multiple offender, caught driving without a current licence, or significantly over the legal limit.

you dont automatically get it back, you have to reapply for it, if you have been done for drink driving in the past you need to convince the DVLA via a doctor that you are not on the beer anymore His statement outside court has f***ed his reapplication already then. Basically, I'll do this again and it's not my fault.

Prick should never drive again and should lose any punditry work. C*nts who drink drive ruin lives and the best we can hope for if he doesn't get sober is that he wraps himself round a tree before he hurts someone. Edited by coulsdoneagle (26 Jul 2016 10.42pm)

Its besides the point if he has a drinking problem, the public need to be protected. I know alcoholics who never drove drunk. ^^^^ THIS^^^^.... I'm not saying that being an alcoholic isn't serious because clearly it is. Having any addiction is terrible and I would want anyone to beat it but Jamie is right. The public must be protected. There can be no excuse for drink driving. I've seen first hand the absolute devastation is causes. Surprised he didn't see a bit of bird this time. Third time can normally earn you a couple of months inside. Hope he sorts himself out.

I like this bit from his lawyer, as if it shoudl earn him some credit: "Mercifully, no-one was hurt. He was cooperative with the police." He was blind drunk and someone had taken his keys away already. All he had to do was roll into the back of a police van/car. Edited by Stuk (27 Jul 2016 1.19pm)

It's like saying "he smiled as he robbed the victim, so give him some credit for that" More than lucky. I can't believe how pitiful the fine was.

I'm not sure how being co-operative with the police lines up with multiple drink driving offences. Co-operating with the police should only count if you've actually co-operated with the police in a way that is meaningful in assisting the police / emergency services with their work (providing evidence to a more serious crime for example - or calling for an ambulance if you wounded someone in a robbery). Also, when being arrested, generally doing what the police want you to do, is generally the only option that doesn't involve resisting arrest or assaulting a police officer.

Being an addict is a struggle, but it doesn't mean you have to be a f**king asshole as well.
