For me, the lack of an effective no. 10 has been almost as big of a problem as the lack of a quality striker. Without a creative midfield player, the attack was so lifeless and predictable last year -- it was basically either spray it down the wings or hope that Wickham could hold up a long ball (he can't). Sure, we have good wing players, but there's no lynchpin to really connect attack and defense.

No doubt, the absence of a real striker is a more glaring concern, but I think the squad could improve greatly by bringing in a creative player to compete with Puncheon. Ziyech, eg, could be a great option.

I really like the profile of Josip Ilicic, a Slovenian international with 38 caps. Aged 28, has consistently scored at least 1 goal in every 5 games over the last 8 years - one every 3 games in the last 3!!

Would cost around what we paid for Cabaye and would be excited if we could get him over the south London.

Many of us were claiming in January that a good number 10 was more important than buying another forward but nothing happened then and down the table we plunged

We definitely need a top playmaker to add to the wide threat. I would love someone like Bojan in that position. If Zaha/Bolasie/Townsend our marked out of the game a threat from in-field is a great option and visa versa.

Puncheon's attacking contribution has been declining for years. He, actually, was at his best at Southampton and he can be a defensive liability
Eriksen is unhappy at Spurs. Offer to triple his salary and pay 20m. He'd be our best player

Do you just make stuff up and hope you are right?

Punch scored 10 goals in four seasons for Southampton, but has scored 16 goals in three seasons for us in all competitions. Even if you just look at league goals he has scored more for us at 9-15. He played less games for Soton though, so minutes per goal may be slightly different, but he clearly hasn't been declining for "years"!

I'll probably be laughed and pointed at for having the 'cheek' to suggest this, but one player I was just reminded of who could easily compete with Puncheon is Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

His best position is said to be in the number 10 role, which Antonio Conte apparently prefers not to use in his teams. He is very highly-rated though, and has not been a regular starter for Chelsea so might be worth enquiring about at least on loan if not permanently.

I do not think Chelsea will loan players to us again.

I would like to see Johnny Williams get some minutes in Punch's central role. Start with Punch and give Williams 20-30 minutes to see what impact he makes in the Prem. It's now or never for Jonny.

Most certainly not European.
