Bang on. A lot of players are worth more to the club selling than the club buying. I think he is worth every penny of £20m to Watford as an established and settled striker and I can see why they'd price him at £20m+

Doesn't mean anyone ought to pay that much.

Yep, we won't see many Prem to Prem transfers I wouldn't have thought, certainly not for first team players, unless there's a release clause of some sort.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I think what a lot of posters have touched on is that with the TV money the "baseline" has risen. So a player worth 5m 5 years ago may be "worth" 10m now. Nothing to do with the improvement in the player, just with finances in the PL generally.

You can now finish bottom with nul points and still pick up a cheque for £100 million.

It's going to be so hard to sign a decent player this summer

it's getting silly. the standard of football in the prem these days isn't as high. seriously.

I mean...15 years ago Deeny would've been always a championship player. A team like Blackburn had a player like Duncan shearer who scored goals for fun in the chapionship and probably could've got 10 in the prem but that wouldn't had be deemed good enough. so they spent big and got alan shearer and Chris Sutton

OK that's a bad comparison as they went to the top end to win the prem
but the point is Deeney in my opinon is a prem goal scorer purely on the basis that the rest of the premises teams are not as good as they were some time back.

he's a good player who if was playing back in 93 94 would still only be in the championship

I think you are looking through rose tinted glasses. The PL had forwards like Peter Ndluv, Danny Dichio, Chris Kiwomya, all playing for teams that didn't get relegated.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

To think that Deeney was once on loan at 'Halesowen Town' and is now the subject of a £25 Mill bid.

In fact Deeney was signed by Walsall from a non-league club (Cannot recall the name). He was signed by Richard Money who was affectionately known as "Dickie Dosh" !
