Never understood people who complained about his set pieces. He hit the first man a lot because he was generally fizzing them in low to try and just clear him with some pace. When done well, that's far harder to defend than a ball floated in with no real pace. For deliveries that were 'w***' we scored a lot of goals from them. Particularly during that play off run under Warnock. Sometimes I think people would prefer that we just floated them in gently towards the penalty spot rather than trying to put in a dangerous cross.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

Fair point mate. I just remember him hardly ever beating the 1st man and in 1 game kicking 2 corners in a row straight out of play.

I'd rather see 5 or 6 corners reach the 6 yard box or the area Huth scored that header at Spurs on the far side of the 6 yard box and to go back in than 2 THAT MIGHT beat the 1st man. He must've remembered how sh1t we are defending throws and prepared to send one over vs us. Also remember the days of head tennis and the ball staying in the air for 30 seconds a tome and BW being near enough the only player able to cushion it down and start playing with a pass. Tat was in a crowd of 16 players a la under 9's..... He was ready for any knock down and 2nd ball yesterday with nobody near him. Nobody. No Mutch, Jedi, Cabaye. Nobody. Appalling. Free ball every time.

And who remembers him being booed when he stepped up to take a penalty? He was given some disgraceful stick by our "supporters". But then nostalgia is not what it used to be......

Mutual respect shown when he came to take a corner we clapped him and he clapped our fans behind the ball that was in his hand so that the Watford fans couldnt see it, fairplay to him and i like players like him that give 100% every game.He had a good game but we made it easy for Watford especially the first half

In fairness he was a good player for us, but his crosses back then and his corners were no where near as good as they are now. He did have a nasty habit of not clearing the first player - But he was always better than some gave him credit for. Its almost as if he's developed into a decent premiership player in the last six or so years...

When we went up he didnt disgrace himself. He always gave 100% - bossed Cabaye last weekend by all accounts ; joint 2nd in player ratings with Zaha, behind Deeney

Solid little player and was young when he was with us hence some of his mistakes. Always showed composure, ability & belief though and it’s those attributes that contribute to him looking established at this level. Best of luck to him and was sorry to see him leave when he did. Good South London lad too … one that got away IMO

I don't remember him bossing games for us like he did against us for Watford. Also that whipped cross he has now wasn't in his locker back then either. I still haven't forgiven him for missing that penalty at Bristol City in the playoffs. He does seem to be a more rounded reliable player these days.

He is now 30 so has gained so much more experience since he left us. He has played under the likes of Steve Bruce,Roberto Martinez, Uwe Rosler, Owen Coyle, Jim Magilton, Roberto Di Matteo, Slavisa Jokanovic, currently under Quique Sanchez Flores and perhaps others.
