Am I the only one who thinks we should set our sights a little higher than Crouch?

I am in two minds. In theory yes but consolidation is key. Look at Swansea and Southampton, it doesn't take much for the wheels to come off.

Also I think that after this year it will potentially be harder to stay up. Villa & Sunderland have consistently flirted with relegation. Poorly run clubs. Most other PL clubs are now well run. A lot of the championship clubs have also got their act together. Crouch on an 18month contract makes sense. Not a particularly sexy deal but sensible.

Anything 'higher' would be just silly.

He looks like a disorientated newly born giraffe as it is!

I think there are much more exciting options out there, but that said, I would still be excited if he joined Palace, especially if the financing of the deal was managed correctly.

If Crouch wasn't a lanky beanpole he'd a). not be what he is, and b). he'd get a lot more respect. He's a very good player and for someone with his physical attributes, a very skillful player too. But people like to write him off as a freak. In my view, he'd be a brilliant signing. Scores goals, has experience, good all-round game, and good attitude. Also unlikely to cost a lot. In many ways, Crouch on an 18 month contract would be brilliant business, letting us consolidate our rise and be in position to spend the real money on an even better player than we could attract now this summer or the summer after. I'm all for this.

I would be very happy as well...... He is a much maligned player, much better than most people think.

I agree.

Plus, if Pulis had signed him or wanted to sign him there would have been a meltdown on here.

Exactly what I was thinking too. He's be an upgrade on what we currently have, sure, but would be an underwhelming signing IMO. We didn't really want him when Pulis was after him, what's changed?

A far better and understandable suggestion then Adef***ingbayour!

I'd be happy with this as a stop gap until the end of the season

I'd be worried about his sharpness he hasn't played much and he is getting on a bit. Think he has peaked and wouldn't be worthwhile. He hasn't featured for a team that we want to be better than. His wages are astronomical, I can't see him wanting to take a cut.

When Stoke signed him I said it was a great move for them, however now they have got the last few years of quality out of him. I actually agree with a lot of people, he is a technically talented footballer and that gets ignored because of his size. But no I think he is past it and if we want to be serious about our ambitions we need better players to push the ones we have, not signing older players to act purely as cover.

Given our shocking crossing of late he would be a perfect fit as he is probably the only person that would be able to get on the end of it.

Bags of experience, absolute handful in the box, great at bringing other players in to the game and holding up the ball and knows where the goal is- a much better player than he looks. Would be a great mentor for CW. The only sticking point might be his wages but other than that, it's a no brainier on a two year deal. Thoughts?

No thanks too old!.

Maybe four years ago.

He's 34, and has played less than three games worth of football this season (218 minutes). We need a forward to cover a lot of ground and take a battering from centre halves.

Not sure he can offer that now.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.
