Alan Whittle? Really?

I wonder whether any other oldies will agree with the inclusion in this list of Denis Uphill. Aptly named, he was the eternal plodder. And I will never ever forget one miss at the Whitehorse end; about three yards out, in the centre of the goal, and unmarked, he lifted it several yards over the crossbar.

And who remembers Borg Thorup (or Throw-up, as a mate of mine called him)? Probably almost nobody - he only played once.

I was chatting with some other aging Palace fans about past Palace players who were disliked and the crowd would groan when selected to play and were thought to be a waste of space and not good enough to wear the Palace shirt and grace the 'Hallowed Selhurst Turf'.
Below are a few I remember falling into the above category:
Shefki Kuqi
Neil Ruddock
Tomas Brolin
Andy Dorman
Jimmy Kebe

and not to forget Terry Venables who was a poor player for us but who also rates high as a disliked manager.

Who would you rate as most disliked Palace player?

..Venaballs did very well in his first post with us.

super Al got huge amounts of stick over two seasons before he scored in the 4-3. Never known a player to get it for so long and stick around.

He did kinda deserve it though. He was awful apart from a couple of unforgettable moments in very important games. He always tried to be fair but he was third division quality in a second division promotion team.

We loved him from April 1990 onwards to be sure and all was forgiven and forgotten to this day.

Did anyone actually like Stan Collymore when he was here - or was it just me who used to groan?

Can't believe there has not been shout out for Darren Pitcher.

Also, who remembers our attempt to replace CPFC legend Andy Gray with the mighty Glenn Pennyfather?

There was a loudmouth on the Holmesdale who also went to the reserves and praised Collymore every week.

Stebbing for me

Subverting this fine thread a little, who were players we didn't rate who turned out better than we thought?

I'll start with Stan Collymore and Valerean (spelling looks way wrong) Ismael

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.
