Some UK ones worth a look

1) The Fades
2) Humans (Currently on Channel 4)
3) Jonathon Strange and Mr Morrell
4) In the Flesh
5) Braquo (actually French but its basically a French take on The Shield, which also thinking about it is absolutely worth watching).

Thinking in terms of drama series

1) Breaking Bad
2) X-Files
3) Dexter
4) 24 (especially earlier seasons)
5) The Outer Limits (the second tranch)

But if I were to include sitcoms etc, I'd probably be inclined to add Dad's Army, Peep Show and Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads somewhere.

I thought that was brilliant. No one else I've spoken to thought it was any good!

Hell yes. Thanks to that show I always make sure I put my watch back or forwards along with daylight savings.

Exactly that mate haha - I like mystery but not so much so that I'm still lost 8 episodes in!

I love 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', I'm just very wary of recommending it to anyone. Its genius to manage to produce a sitcom in which you actually hate all of the main characters, and still be genuinely laugh out funny.

I would add dexter to the list, tails off a bit at the end, but still great TV.

They all tail off at the end...

Excellent shout.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
