This post has been merged from a topic called 'Iker Casillas' by Moose Not really feeling this dog s*** thread, our problems don't lie at the back, pretty much solid as it goes...we need firepower and a creative midfielder...and if the rumors are to go by, Remy, Cabaye, Austin or Ba would be amazing for us...the roar down at the palace is the best in country, I can not wait for our 1st home game against Arsenal...

Whether you're joking or not, he's two years younger than Speroni. Let's be honest, this is never happening. It's Iker fricking Casillas for crying out loud. You know, captained Spain when they won the World Cup, one of the best 'keepers in the world (his confidence is probably shot at the moment, but he's top 10 still, at least.) I thought the Euro's would mean we'd possibly see a slightly higher calibre of player possibly joining us due to wanting game time to get into their respective national squads, but pushing it to the likes of Casillas is just bonkers. If this happens I'll dance naked through Leicester.

WH with one and a terrible defensive play at Poo from being 2. and then he shuts out belgium, so that's 1 goal playing against some top class teams. WH as a starter with JS as a proven #2 in case things go sideways, plus being a great team leader and rep for the squad should do just fine. need to spend money wisely. if we're going to overspend, be it at striker 1st. having said that, there is one small bit of sense this makes: casillas wants to play #1 (but not in spain), he doesn't want to waste energy in CL or europa so he can be full form and ready to play for spain in euro cup. still, there are 20+ other teams that offer him the same thing.

It barely even matters that we don't really need a keeper, that if we signed him Hennessey would almost certainly move on, or even where he is in his career. The simple fact is that this, like Lombardo a decade ago, would be a statement signing. In two years we'd have gone from inking a marginal Spanish Under-21 player to signing the captain of Spain's World Cup winning team. You can argue the toss about whether we do/don't need him or you do/don't want him but this is the sort of deal that will make people, not least other players, sit up and notice. How many transfer targets (Remy, Ba, Cabaye, etc.) would see the arrival of Casillas as a good reason to seriously consider joining Palace? All of them? And like Lombardo, his influence on the pitch is likely to extend far beyond his individual contribution. Casillas at Palace would make us a global entity in the sense that we are not now. That has to be good.
