I know I'm a bit early, but im flat out tomorrow.
I find it frustrating just how much effort is put into celebrating St. Paddy's day in England and how little attention is given to dear old St. George. Only people with a history of being conquered celebrate national days.
Dunno, we've been invaded by the Italians, the Germans, Danish, Swedish, Norwegians, Finnish, and finally by those b******s the French. So I guess we should be celebrating it like whackos.

Dunno, we've been invaded by the Italians, the Germans, Danish, Swedish, Norwegians, Finnish, and finally by those b******s the French. So I guess we should be celebrating it like whackos. Realistically, only the Angles, Saxons, Romans and Normans really ever conquered, but the idea of England (as opposed to Kingdoms that made up Britain) come in the 10th century, under the Danelaw, and really only established fully under Edward the confessor, and then finally fully established under the Norman Invasion of 1066 (which is really the point at which England really becomes a singular political entity that is stable). So in that sense, whilst England has fought many wars, its never been conquered or successfully invaded since 1066. So really that was Britain, that was invaded not England. The majority of the nations under those invasions migrated out into Wales, Scotland, Cornwall and Ireland. Edited by jamiemartin721 (23 Apr 2015 10.19am)

I am spending the day tutting at people, apologising for things that were someone else's fault, queuing for stuff and not looking at people on the train. Followed by a Full English for dinner. I see this as the English equivalent of drinking Guinness and dancing about in an over-sized novelty hat. I'm 1/4 Scottish though so on St. Andrew's day I'll have a bottle of Irn Bru and not take a bath. That's a joke Scottish people, I love you really
