"IQ Test: If you have 1 bucket with 2 gallons and 1 bucket with 4 gallons, how many buckets you got? " From the movie 'Idiocracy'. Quiz shows...you've basically got 'Mastermind' then, apart from Eggheads, everything else is either Mastermind for idiots or format dominated excuses for presenters to show off. I blame The Weakest Link but it probably started with 'Take your Pick' 50 odd years ago.

Pointless is an interesting quandry, as whilst its clearly not 'highbrow cerebal' material, it is exceptionally difficult to do well at. Technically Mastermind isn't that difficult, given its a specialist subject chosen by the participant. It just seems very difficult because we know f**k all about it (And the more specialised you can make the subject, the easier it is to 'cram for'). The general knowledge round isn't too difficult. University Challange however really is quite hard. One of the most stunning moments of my life was when a drug dealer / friend was round our flat, and Uni challange was on, he answered all bar two questions right on the entire episode (starters and questions), for both sides. Arguably he set the bar very high for wasted talent.

I like Tuesday nights.... University Challenge at 8pm BBC2 followed by Only Connect. Sadly OC ended last week and UC has only got 2 shows to go. I also like Eggheads and Pointless, but they are not nearly as challenging, but as entertaining in a light hearted way.
