With circa 40 discworld books and his writing style being as varied as a T-Rex single, I think the last thing we needed was more discworld books. I'm inclined to believe Jamie. He's reminds me of a Bill Oddie in an especially stroppy mood.

His early Discworld novels are without equal in modern humour....the last few lost it somewhere. The sympathy with the poor and downtrodden was replaced with an interest in the powerful....Vimes was so much more 'Vimes' before promotion not just a Disk Dirty Harry. Don't be too sure about there being no more Diskworld stuff, he had enough collaborators to fill a small town.

Much better than Jeffery Archer mind, who was the biggest f**king c**t I ever met. Maybe he just hated booksellers, but that's not a great trait in an author.

I'm going to choose to disregard JM721 because it would be destroying a happy memory Brilliant author and his books were so brilliantly un-snobbish and genuinely laugh-out-loud funny at points. A real shame (although yes his last couple of books were let downs).

read everyone one of his books and own them all, my particular favourite was one he co wrote with Niel Gaiman, Bad Omens. very funny, quite Dark in places but a bloody good read. I would recomend it to any Pratchett fan. Also if you havent tried him before and you like Prachett try Robert Rankin, just as mad, and just as funny. RIP

Quite liked his early books but I lost interest around the time of Moving Pictures, I wouldn't say he was a great writer, but he definitely was a good one, who knew his audience. As an author its really footnotes on Douglas Adams and Rankin. I'd also recommend Jasper Fforde to Pratchett fans, for a more 'literate if irreverent' alternative. Inclined to agree that 'Good Omens' and 'Mort' were probably his finest moments, along with 'Moving Pictures', 'Guards Guards' and 'The Colour of Magic'. His use of capital letters for Death was fairly inspired. Still a nasty little s**t though, with a massive ego.
