I support the strike even though I rely on the bus and will have to walk home It's silly that some bus drivers get more working for a different bus company than others, they all do the same job, I think they do a sterling, keeping London moving. According to TFL, it was Unite that negotiated different pay deals with the bus companies so they are largely to blame Is there not a contridiction somewhere here?? Indeed there is - their union f'ed it up, so the union calls them out on strike for parity and once again the poor old paying public have to suffer! So what if they get different rates from different companies - I' pretty sure that a legal clerk in a small firm of solicitors doesn't expect to get exactly the same as a fellow clerk working for a major international partnership, so why should it be different for bus drivers? If they don't like the rates, go work for a rival, better-paying company - that way the company is hit by the loss of staff and will have to adjust it's rates to match it's competitors. Doesn't need another bloody union strike to achieve it! No, i meant a contridiction in what PP was saying.

I really don't get it. There are people who do the same job as me. Some are paid more and some are paid less. If I had a huge problem with it I'd switch employers as soon as possible. This is just the way the world is and bus drivers need to just get over it. Let then keep striking and stop earning money for a pensionable days work. They don't care about the commuter and quite frankly the feeling is mutual in this matter. Actually, let's set all the pay the same but equal to the lowest paying bus company then they are all equal and happy. Sorted.

They are using collective bargining to get a better deal for all bus drivers. They could follow your advice and some would get more and some less, but the chances of any given individual getting more is higher if they all demand higher, so from their point of view striking will work better. From your point of view, you should form a union. Thats the point of a union to get better deals for its members, not to give a monkeys about the public. Which you are quite right, they don't.

If they want to earn more money then good for them, but to punish the commuter annoys me. So I'm certainly not going to feel bad for any bus drivers when they are bleating away on the news. If you don't like your job or the pay then get a different one. I think there are potential topics which would justify strike action. This is not one in my opinion.

I would send them a letter to the bus drivers but they're barely ever actually at work.

Rather than going on strike, the bus drivers should insist all passengers ride for free. That'd make the bus companies take more notice. Having said that, I support the strikes. The disparity in pay is amazing. As for those saying drivers should leave and join the better paying companies... What decade are you living in?
