How can you include Lombardo?

He only played for half a season in the top division before breaking his leg and surely "best ever" must include an element of longevity.

How could you not? He was incredible. 48 games is enough in my book.

My list:

1. Lombardo
2. Wright
3. Gray
4. Thomas
5. Salako

Martyn should be in there but I can't think of who to leave out so I'm not including goalies!

Other notable mentions: Johnson, Sorrondo, Curcic, Jansen, Gordon, Clyne, Moses, Hughes, Bright.

Had a season ticket since 88 ( apart from 2 years in Tenerife) which was when Lombardo was playing.

Top 5 , no order

Wright
Bright
Johnson
Gray
Salako/ Martyn

Best ever loan player

Ashley Cole ( saw him at Prenton park and remember telling my mate that he would be the England left back for years)

there will never, ever be a team that will equal the team of the early 90s in my eyes, maybe because of the age I was, or because I was watching them with my old man, but they were great.

The hardest man I've seen play was Gary Thompson, a beast of a man.

I think that we need to find a 130 year old Palace fan, who has had a season ticket since they were 21.
What ever they say goes.

A great pick. So hard. No Jacko, no Lombardo, no Rogers? Who can tell who were better?

130? The oldest a fan could be is 109. But what about those who have known fans of Palace of yesterday. The man who sold Palace lottery tickets in Edenbridge to me and died in 1992 had been with his dad to see Palace at the Nest! Peter Simpson was his favourite player ever.

A 130 year old , who had a season ticket since they were 21. Do the maths, I know it's a Sunday night though mate, so fair enough.

Totally agree ,
Budgee Byrne would have to be in any top 5,probably the
start of our progression as a great club.
The first 4th Division player to ever be selected for the full England team in 1961.
Great skilful forward,
After Palace transferred to WHU and was playing with the likes of Moore,Peters & Hurst all WC Winners in 1966.
Budgee Byrne 1956-1962,When JB started with Palace as a 17year old,we were 20th in Division 3 South, equivalent today to bottom half of our new 2nd Division.
RIP Budgee

Nothing new really but for me:

Byrne
Sansom
Jackson
Wright

Then it is tough: Steve Kember; Jim Cannon, Don Rogers; Peter Taylor are hard to choose between and Mike Elwiss would have been in there had he played longer for us. So many others keep popping in to my head as well.

However, I will give the final place to the DON, of whom I have so many very happy memories.
