I'm another who was too young to remember this period of our history. How did we go from third to relegated? Has any club in history gone from such a high finishing position to relegation in just two seasons? Edited by jpegnall (11 May 2014 9.54am)

1st home game was a warm midweek under the lights vs Chelsea. 1st game of Arfur all seated with Wright twisting a couple of players and lobbing the keeper from 25 yards out of the WH Lane goal.

The 90/91 season was too long ball for my liking and Wright apart entertainment value was low. Attendances were very disappointing. A fair few 14,000 and 15,000's even though we came 3rd which kinda tells the story. The 88/89 and 89/90 seasons were far far better for me as a home and away supporter. I do remember a young spindly whippet-like 17 year old coming on for Utd at Selhurst and their fans getting very excited. Wonder what happened to him? Bryan somebody I think. Top memory was going to Wimbledon away when they still had their crappy ground at Plough Lane. We won 3-0 and Wrighty scored a hat-trick including an outrageous lob from near the halfway line. Funnily that game stands out more for me than the 3-0 victory over a Man Utd team with lots of reserves a week later. They were the last two matches of a great season. I also remember a 0-0 home draw with Arsenal. Salako scored with a stunning volley that was wrongly ruled out for offside. I was in the Arfur right in line with play and I knew the lino's offside call was wrong. The sense of injustice lingered for a long time. The away match at Arsenal was a top memory for me. Ian Wright kept leaving their defence standing on the break, but just didn't have any luck in front of goal that day. The Arsenal fans were saying to each other - He's good isn't he? I'm convinced that's when Arsenal finally decided they were buying him. Meantime, Arsenal made 4 chances and scored 4 goals! Probably our least deserved result that season

The same game Dennis Wise had a pop at Andy Gray and got flattened.

As a kid 88/89 is the season that sticks with me as much as 1990.There was Birmingham which was the first bit of violence I witnessed at football, 4-3 against Millwall and that amazing Hopkins own goal and Brighton where each team got 64 penalties.A lot of kid tears were cried by me over those 2 seasons wether it was being s*** scared by violence, beating Liverpool in the semi, losing the final or winning the zds.Amazing.
