I would no we won't as I think it's been worse this season than last already. Suppose only time will tell though.

Really? Where were you on Monday during the last quarter of an hour? What about the Chelsea game? The only reason these games weren't as good as some of the great games in the past is that we are no longer allowed to cram in 51,801 people, mainly standing. I was impressed with the Whitehorse by the way, definitely getting louder.

The first half of the season it was hard going as the play on the pitch didn't help the cause but it's certainly getting going again.

Let's hope the new fans self-select as people that want to add to the atmosphere rather than just observe.

I was in my seat on Monday and at Chelsea just where I have been for the last 16 years and yes the atmospheres were great. I just think in general the atmosphere this year hasnt been as good. I think its been a shame that when its been hard going the atmosphere hasnt been as good as only 3/4 years ago we were in admin, playing dreadful football but atmosphere was always good.

Like I say, we have had games this season where the atmosphere has been very good, liverpool especially was extremely loud but just consistently I dont think it's been as good that's all.

Me and one of my mates were discussing this on Monday night. Here's the basic fact: Most of the Holmesdale is already full of longtime supporters with season tickets. The noise will continue. The Arthur faithful will still sing their hearts out...and even if you're not a singer, it takes a certain type of person (myself included) to sit in the leaky smelly old AW more than once a year! The main stand is and will always be polite and quiet and sort of a wash. So the only stand I could see changing/losing atmosphere is the family section.

Most new supporters will get tickets to one game, buy a home shirt from the clubhouse store, and watch the rest of the season's higlights on MOTD. And there's nothing wrong with that. Matchday will continue to call out the rest of the league on their naff supporters.

...and it's up to all the fans in the ground who want to keep that noise to actually do it and not just sit there and wonder where it's gone!

I hope it is possible that through our amazing support and the media attention given to the HF that we may actually get louder. Hopefully a lot of younger fans will join up and be part of supporting Palace as an improvement on supporting one of the money bags teams.

Even 6,000 miles away the noise made by Palace fans this season has made a positive impression - another season of the same or better will start getting us a real international fan base.

I agree - our club is gaining more interest from overseas. With all PL games being shown here in the Middle East the fan base is expanding.

I can only see the crowds increasing next year (seating permitted) and the atmosphere going up "another level" (well Dane Bowers is a local!!)

The HF have done a great deal of good to promote our club.

It happened to Stoke - previous title holders for noisiest crowd.

However, we have a secret weapon, the HF and AWM. The noise will continue as long as they are around.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.

The atmosphere and noise level is bound to fluctuate. But that does not mean we go the way of Chelski and the prawn eaters. In the early 70s, when Palace were fairly safe in the middle section of the old div 1 Palace played Leicester at home at Easter. Gates then were about 30-35,000 and the noise was terrific from all parts. But at this match, against another mid-table side there were large gaps on the terraces and all was discreetly cricket-like in applause. A few weeks later things were back to normal. Fan's performance, like the players, will vary. If it doesn't are we going to go down the Old Kent Road? I don't think so.

Already here. I was at the back of the AW with what appeared to be a group of visitors from somewhere in SE Asia [guessing Burma?]. Beside me were 2 tourists from Denmark [who had been to the really dull Chelea match the day before - won't they ever learn..?]. None knew the words of the chants; but they all jumped up and down, clapped in the right places and sung the non lyric parts. That is not what footy tourists do. The Selhurst vibe is clearly infectious.

Another very important aspect is EXPECTATION.

We expected nothing this season so everything was a bonus and the supporter have reacted accordingly. By making noise.

If we start thinking we've made it next year and expecting wins and another 11th place, then the atmosphere will be affected ... if we don't.

EXPECT another hard slog and help the team along with atmosphere like this season ... and then who knows!

... what

Yes we are trying. Would love to get the Whithorse doing a display but I think we are not there yet.....

I am not sure what our average attendance is but must be well over 20,000? So we only need to add another couple of thousand passionate supporters and wer'e there!
