It was the penultimate game, I went and they played we are the champions on the pa system after the game for the palace.

Last game was against Watford, lost 2 nil and think that was last game of standing in the holmesdale

Was def "the last stand" - was there great day even if we did loose to Watford. League already won - no pressure. (Twenty years later similar situation. )

Yep. I wasn't at the Boro game but I remember that last match against Watford. We'd won the league easily and I was in the Arthur instead of where I usually stood on the Holmesdale. Felt strange to look at it and all the people on it and think of all the times I'd stood there in the rain and snow watching Palace struggle through.

I miss the old terrace

Me too.Spent many years (and pounds) standing there in all weathers. Must admit, stood at Whitehorse pre Sainsbury days and for those as old as me..stood on the terraces where the Arthur now is..remember watching CP beat Forest in the cup and then lose to Leeds (3-0) in quarter final.

Yes I stood on the old Whitehorse terrace too and the Arthur enclosure before they seated that area too. Good old days

I had a funny old day out at the Boro game. Stayed with a mate in York, got the train as far as Darlington where a Sunday bus replacement service was laid on. Bus broke down on an A road with an hour to go...then this local lad gave at least 4 Palace fans a lift all the way to the old Ayresome Park. Great game - a to-an-fro 2-3er in our favour. Remember Chris Armstrong scoring with a towering header but not much else. Train back to York almost all red and blue. Happy days. That team really should've stayed up the following year and spared us two decades of roller-coasting!

I remember driving up the A19 and turning off to find a quiet pub before getting to boro only to find one full of a coach load of Palace already in fine voice.
Also remember the big skinhead who was always at away games trying to climb over the big fence at the end of the game. The area around Ayresome Park was really depressing back then. Don't suppose it's changed much

No, before my time. I started going with my dad in the early '70's and think the Arthur had a roof then.

I played there too in the Croydon Cup Final in 1980 for Sylvan High against Edenham. Here's me making a crucial save (we won 2-1 and had the home dressing room )
