There's a pretty good chance I wrote that way back when. Either Shaggy or I or both of us wrote a good portion of the stuff on Tony's old site. Thanks for the memory!

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Seem to remember him scoring a last minute goal in the cup against Watford. At selhurst and think he won a mountain bike?

I think you're mixing up two memories. The mountain bike was Leon McKenzie, who made his debut in the League Cup. But George did score a last minute goal against Watford in the Cup, on a Tuesday night from what I recall, maybe in 1995/6 or if not that, 1996/7 season. I think it was the last minute of extra time, too.

Yep your right Syd well dug out!

How can he be 39!!! That was a rhetorical question as I remember being a linesman back when he played for CP at Herne Bay in a Under 18 cup semi-final.

Now imagine the scene.. it was 0 - 0 and in extra-time. the winners were to play BHA or Clapton in the final.

The ball in played forward and George was off-side, I flagged. The ball went through to the Herne Bay keeper. The referee played the advantage. The keeper then kicked the ball from his hands, it hit George on the back of the head and looped back over the keepers head and into the net. Palace won 1-0.

Ah happy daze!!

I was at that game and pretty sure it was in front of the old Holmesdale terrace. Having said that my memory's rubbish so am happy to be corrected.

Great story! Do you remember who we played in the final and who won? A final win against the weed would've been very nice indeed
