Could we not be mathematically safe already? I know points wise we can be caught up by every team but surely some teams below us have to play each other meaning they can't all get the required points. I think don't Cardiff and Sunderland have to play each other? Meaning they can't both catch us. Anyone mathematically advanced enough to do this though?

Its not a question of if all of them or two of them can catch us but it only needs one to catch us mathmatically, so Sunderland Do play Cardiff but if one of those two teams win all of their last games (4 for Cardiff and 5 for Sunderland) they will get 1 more point than we have now.

We would then have to lose every game left which all in all would be an incredibly improbable sequence of events, yet still possible.

So as it stands we can guarantee Premiership survival this weekend with any of the following:

Palace beat West Ham: No matter what Cardiff, Sunderland and Fulham do that keeps us up.

Palace draw: No matter what Cardiff and Sunderland do they cant catch us, Fulham will have to win all there last games including the 12:45 kick off which ends before the Palace game (and get incredible goal difference wins) so if Fulham do not win that we know a draw against West Ham will keep us up.

Palace lose: We will still stay up if Fulham lose to Spurs and both Cardiff and Sunderland do not win.

So basically in the mathmatical world the Fulham Sours game is mathmatically important for us, especially as it happens before we kick off.

I do think we are safe, but this is Palace, we always manage to do the unbelievable...never a dull moment, somehow ill really celebrate when its impossible for us to be relegated. I'm saving the beers for Saturday night.

I have a suggestion for all you doomongers who think we could still go down.

Palace are now 350-1 to go down. Go a put £100 on that.
If Palace do go down then the £35000 will soften the blow a little, if they stay up, well you just spent £100 to keep us up..Win win I'd say.

Both Cardiff and Sunderland can still get 41 points if they win all, and we lose all. But by Saturday evening we could be safe if results go for us!! get in.

Cardiff and Sunderland still have to play each other, so only one of those 2 can mathematically catch us.

This would have to happen for us to be relegated

games played - points needed

Sunderland 5-15
cardiff 4-12
Fulham 4-11
Norwich 4-9
W.Brom 5-7
Swansea 4-7
A.Villa 5-6
W.Ham 4-3

I have assumed superior goal difference against some teams . As Sunderland play Cardiff one relegation spot already gone

Seeing as you cant actually get 11 points from 4 games, that means they really need 12.

I think in my simple mind, I calculate that if any of the current bottom three get a draw or loose this weekend we are pretty much safe.

If Fulham get a draw at Tottenham, and win their remaining games, then they can still reach 40 points, but their goal difference is -40 ours is -14

All this talk about Cardiff and Sunderland, yet there are other teams below us who have to win games. Only one of Cardiff and Sunderland can catch us so leaves 2 relegation places to fill, but what about Norwich? Surely they cant pick up 9 points from their last 4 games! West Brom also have to play City and Arsenal away from home. Villa have to play Swansea too

I think the position is - If we get a point at West Ham and the bottom 2 win then they can only draw level on pts so would go to GD - Fulham could still overhaul by a point if they win and then win the rest of their games

A win for us means mathematical safety

If we lose and they all lose we are also safe

At the start of the season I just wanted us to show fight and if we went down then do it with dignity so I can believe that with 4 games to go I am actually typing what we need to be safe

So basically nobody really has a clue?!lol.

Tbh it is confusing, but if we beat West Ham we are 100% safe, mathematics and all!
