Adrian M is very lucky to be in the side. He gets caught out on pace many times but is able to foul his way to safety. Definitely knows how not to get booked

Bit harsh to say he's lucky to be in the side. If you're part of a defence that has got as many clean sheets as we have, then you must be doing something right. Plus he looks a lot more comfortable than Parr and Moxey in defence.

As mentioned, his positioning may be governed by TPs direction. This only makes him a moderate player being groomed to be better. For Palace to go the next step we should be looking for a player with a bit more, rather like Ward.

It depends what you want from your Full Back. Ward is definitely a better defender but Mariappa & Puncheon's understanding going forward gives us much more of an attacking threat - hence mariappa getting caught out and Puncheon often dropping back to cover.

For my money all the time that Punch is playing then Mariappa should be in the team.

changed my seat on sat and was near front of the Arthur so had a good look at him 1st half.

He did a decent job but is pretty ordinary. Going forward likes an extra touch and often declines to cross but kept it simple and rarely lost possession.

Defensively he did ok but has a tendency to drift inside (near the centre backs) when villa are attacking down the other side.

He's decent back up at both centre and right back but for over £2m thought we might be getting more for our money.

Has definitely improved overall though - at Wigan in the cup he was a complete liability.

Not trying ot have a pop, just saying it as i see it.

Is that not Pulis's style of defending? A narrow back four with the wingers tucking in... I think he's been superb and really hasn't received the credit he deserves. Gets forward really well and can defend too.

Nope, that's how everyone defends.

Palace99, what is he meant to do, stay out on the wing when the ball is on the other side of the pitch? That would isolate him and would virtually mean that we are playing with a man short. I'm also not really sure what you expect for the sum of £2m? AM has done everything asked of him while in a Palace shirt.

Really good player, has been brilliant these last few weeks. Has a very impressive leap on him too! His link up play with Punch is also usually very goo as people have mentioned. Much prefer to have him at RB and Ward at LB and not have Moxey and Parr. As good as they have been, they are not really good enough for the prem.

Good stuff Plane and the rest. I thought we were discussing Maryupher as a player in himself. But you are right, he does need to do what he is told and well, which he does. The point about Punchey covering is also a good one. There is a bit of a problem here tho'. Will all players of Punchy's ilk have to take into account the weaknesses of fellow players and will there be a time when Palace will invest in a player without having to make do? And by weaknesswes I don't mean the occasional mistake but built in failings ALA Maryupher.

It's only you and Palace99 that see these 'weaknesses', all players have to defend to a certain extent when we haven't got the ball, that's all elementary stuff and I really shouldn't need to explain it to ya Ade!

As victor says above, he has a terrific leap on him and being a central defender, he often has the vision to move inside and pick up things that the two CB's may miss.

What you've pretty much described is 'basics'...as a full back you're always told to come 'narrow' when the ball is on the other flank.

Do you actually support Palace, first of all it's KG now it's Mariappa, get a grip and support the players, and stop criticizing the players. When you want to watch perfect players, Man C and Liverpool seem to be doing ok.
