Uh? ...you have a season ticket for Palace home games and you've been to seven away games? Are you seeking some sort of quality assurance on your eligibility as a CPFC supporter?

Some people have supported the club for decades whilst others have been attracted by our newly acquired Premiership status. Nothing wrong with the latter ...I first came to see Palace when they were promoted to the old first division back in 1969. It's how people get hooked.

All supporters add value to the club and ALL are welcome!!!!

My Belgian pal Bertrand is the worst one I know.

Sublime, but only for those of a certain age.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Think the 'I'm a bigger fan than you/New fans need to be moulded/You're not a real fan if you leave before the end/Only real fans stand and sing/blah/blah' debate has been done to death.
Yawn

Those fellas who get up at 3am or whatnot across the globe to watch Palace via the links or in a bar specially staying open. They are hardcore. Don't own season tickets nor memberships some of them. Might not have been to Selhurst for decades too.

I'd rather talk Palace to those blokes in a pub given the chance than someone who reckons they are the truest fan because they have the shirt and are happy to spend thousands and have been doing it for all of eight months now or one or two of the golden oldies who haven't got a life outside of Palace and denigrate anyone who dares to.

Surely just supporting Palace forever, clambering for their results, trying to get to matches if poss and detouring to see them away, that is not plastic. I have a son-in-law who honestly believes that if you have been to one match and watch a team on telly regularly and 'support' that team, then you are a true supporter. This means he has changed his allegiance over the years. I have explained this would never do for me. You can't be a fan of one team and just change. AND IF THERE ARE NO TROPHIES MY SUPPORT GROWS IN AN EFFORT TO ALTER THAT FACT. Unfortunately this lack of silverware is a signal for a change for him. Now that is truly plastic. I take his kids to see the Gills and they are metamorphing a true interest in them, something their Dad does not get. I feel sorry for him!

I'm not sure if everyone noticed all the sarcasm dripping from the OP

He's clearly not a 'plastic' but he does appear to be a bit of a knob.

I'm with the OP on this.

What has struck me this season especially is the amount of fans we have now who are a bit above their station now we are in the Prem. Too much crap about fickle fans and plastics just because someone hasn't had a season ticket for the past 50 years on the spin. We're Crystal Palace, we are not big enough to have true plastic fans. So some people that can't afford to go week in week out then break the bank a little now and then so they can watch us play a couple of decent sides at last, I've got nothing against that. The amount of crap on here sometimes when it comes to this sort of thing is the exact reason I don't really use this site anymore.

We're not Man Utd. We're Crystal Palace (thank god). But there really has been some s*** on here this year from people who all of a sudden think we are.

I'm not a plastic fan. Like I said, we don't really have any. But based on a lot of peoples perceptions as of this season (all of a sudden), I am now, according to them. Long live the plastics. We will still be palace fans, like many of you, even if we end up in League One.

Hillsboro... Sheffield Weds 2 - 2 Palace. WHAT a day!

At the risk of setting off est1905 again, there is an interesting point here. First the OP comes from Camden, maybe our appeal is spreading outside South London.

In any case, as we gain new supporters there is a danger we lose what we had, the 'culture' we have built up gets watered down. The more newcomers that arrive suddenly, the bigger the danger. Just look at M&A activity in companies, you can absorb multiple small ones but big ones are notorious for disrupting the business culture and destroying value.

Clever companies therefore put heaps of work into 'aclimatising' newcomers, so they adopt the existing mores of the business. Both for singleton mature hires and also for acquired groups.

Not sure what we can do about keeping the culture but I for one am a big admirer of the HF as a part of keeping us unique.

So to me, there really is an issue with 'plastics' if they don't decide to get really involved and a part of our culture. I am sure Jamie will define culture for us in due course.
