Before my time but I think Palace's debut season in the top division when we beat a full strength Man United 5 0 and Don Rodgers announced himself to the world would probably be listed as Palace's greatest ever result by outsiders.
My personal favourite match/result was the 1990 FA cup semi final. Liverpool 3 Palace 4!
That still has such a gorgeous ring to it!

There are loads of bests, Wrexham away 77, Semi v Liverpool, Leeds Fa cup 76, Stockport away, Weds away, Blackburn 2nd leg playoff final, Burnley home 79, 5-0 over Man Utd 70(?), any win over Millwall at the new or old den, but it has to be because of the rivalry the Weed away last season, just, by a smidgen, because there is hardly any chance of them ever doing the same to us on such a grand scale. Ask Charlton fans......

The Chelsea game is simply our best result this season.

So many other games that give the context were way better, as others have said.

Might squeak into the top 20 though.

Inter Milan at the San Sirio in the old Anglo-Italian Cup is up there with the best but the semi-final against Liverpool must take the award.

Stature wise it has to be little ole 3rd division Palace in 1976 away to a full strength Leeds team, one of the best in Europe who were cheated out of winning the European Cup final v Bayern only 8 months earlier, and outplaying them in front of 40,000 plus and winning 1-0.

This was when the FA Cup meant just as much as winning the league if not more. Every match and every player in every round played their utmost it was that important.

Liverpool 4-3 is second.

Quote JeffBourne at 31 Mar 2014 7.11pm

It is certainly up there based on the stature of the opponents.

Best performance though?
Not sure about that.

Other Memorable Performance....

Beating Blackburn 3-0 in PO 2nd Leg
Beating Leeds 1-0 1976
Beating Wrexham 4-2 1977
Beating Chelsea 3-2 1976
Beating Seaweed 2-0 2013
Beating Arse 2-1 199? at Highbury

superb performance against chelski, and given that all my in-laws are chelski and I've waited a long time for a result like Saturdays after years of them taking the pi55,it is up there for me, but at the end of the day, we are in the same division as them, so I agree with one of JeffBourne's choices as our best ever, Leeds away in the FA Cup in 1976 measured on the Richter scale it was so massive at the time.

Also that 1976 Leeds team had been the best in England over the preceding 5 or 6 years too with Derby and Arsenal their main rivals for that accolade.

Monkey put it very well. Richter Scale stuff indeed.

I think what the guy is trying to say is 'best result against a big team as the underdog' rather than 'best result ever'. But even if we are keeping it to that, the FA Cup Semi-Final is just one example of a bigger result, and that's by an absolute mile!
