Have a look at his history of clubs - repeatedly loaned out, and sent back. I would have nothing against him coming back to the club, but the fact appears to be that he's simply nowhere near good enough.
That potential has turned out seemingly to be just that and nothing more ---------------------------------------------------- Hard to say whether he is finally making it but he could be, and he is only 22. Anyone on here actually seen him play in the past year or so? Perhaps the boy is becoming a man and getting away from his evil stepfather. Edited by Mapletree (25 Mar 2014 11.41am)

Why would you take him back in a heartbeat? He’s playing in the Belgium 2nd division because he has failed everywhere else and no clubs in the English leagues want him, there is nothing to suggest he would be anywhere close to being good enough for Palace if we were relegated. I also disagree that everyone would bugger off to Spurs if they came calling? OK, he was offered what was to him a massive pay rise but if he had stayed at Palace and had both fulfilled his potential by maintaining a place in the Palace first team, he could have been sold to Spurs a year later then possibly broken into their first team. He was apparently on over £300k a year at Spurs which is a fantastically large amount of money but I’m sure he is on a considerably smaller amount out in Belgium. None of us know if he would have been a better player if he had stayed at Palace but you have to suspect it would be better than the level he has found himself at. Which is probably on a par with league 2. Good post tc

I wouldn't have him back but how can people call him a traitor. He was 15 year old kid approached by a big club offering him a big contract promising him a future at Spurs. He was 15 for Christ sakes, it is only Human nature to have the stars in your eyes and when your 15 being told by one of the biggest names in football your going to be a star, 99.9 percent of people are going to sign that contract. Wouldn't have him back personally but I hold no grudges.

My anger at the time wasn't only at his perceived betrayal as a fan but also that it felt like we had been royally stiffed for the money we received. Looking at the trajectory his career has taken since though, the fee doesn't seem so bad anymore. As for having him back, based purely on playing ability, I wouldn't have him within a hundred miles of the club in the Championship, let alone the Premier League.

Ofcourse it hurt in the past and like Bright says in this interview, when a big club like Spurs come calling in, everyone would do the same. It does seem like he has some good advisors with him now, playing in Belgium to start up again and focus on technical football and he seems more mature. Would take him back in a heartbeat. Life is too short to hold grudges. Forgive and forget. Hope Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink teaches him well. Such a great talent and still young. England International still on the cards with his quality technical ability and would be great to see him in a Palace shirt again one day. Great to hear he still looks out for Palace results as well. Good interview LKO Interview: Edited by eagleboi (25 Mar 2014 10.33am) Great post. You are absolutely right, but I fear the moronic, bile-spitting, hold-a-grude-forever brigade will descend on you within minutes. Some people, it seems, manage to lead faultless lives and avoid ever making a mistake.

Playing at his natural level it would seem, 2nd division in Belgium. Spurs bought potential, and he's not the first that has not fulfilled their early promise and he wont be the last. we'll never know if it would would've turned out differently if he'd stayed with us for another couple of years which is a shame. would I want him back at Palace ? Sure, if he's good enough, but obviously he isn't.

Good job nobody here is holding a grude. There is one thing he said that kind of makes me want to hold a grude though. He said it was all far too easy for him at Palace, indicating the level at which we were playing was beneath him. Didn't like that but then how many 16 year old boys do people like? Don't answer that Cucking...

Good interview LKO Interview: Edited by eagleboi (25 Mar 2014 10.33am) Are you joking!!! I would NEVER take him back as he left Palace for money. Him and his father said that he would stay, but didn't. Also what does he offer us?? Has anyone seen him play?? Are you serious!!!? So what. Everyone moves in their careers for more money. GET OVER IT. The lad has immense ability and technique. Are you telling me you never made a mistake when you were younger than 18? Benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing. By no means the finish article. As JFH said, maybe another year in a country which has produced and has faith in some of the best young players in the World. Like Ravel Morrison, a 2nd chance is what these awesomely skilled players need. Would LOVE to see them play in an England shirt or Palace shirt. Whichever. You're comparing him to Ravel Morrison? Morrison is a vile human being who hasn't learned any of his multiple lessons. Bostock - meh, chased the money, silly boy.

He just need games, it's great he's played over 20 games for Antwerp this season, needs to continue that year on year 20+ games then he'll finally develop.

As I've said numerous times, his attitude since leaving is the reason I won't forgive him, rather than him actually leaving in the first place. The guy is a prat. Those saying that £700k was actually a good amount of money having seen how he's done, I disagree. Who's to say that he wouldn't have gone on to play 100 games for us and leave for £10m like Wilf? The kid was the best player in the country for his age, and we missed out on enjoying his talent. Mark Bright says that his decision to go to Spurs was brave, and that everyone at Palace wish him well. That's bollocks on both counts. Edited by jcreedy (25 Mar 2014 4.13pm)
It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. - John Bostock (Nov 2007) |
