I would love to read your analysis once it's done. What shouldn't be forgotten is that Captain Nevill was 21 years old and charged with leading hundreds of proud and brave men, many his elders, to almost certain death. How many of similar age today would relish being in that position?
I totally agree with that! It's frustrating how that event has been singled out to highlight the naivety of many soldiers sent out to the front. There was widespread ignorance as to the horrors of trench warfare, yes, but sport and the kicking of footballs over the trenches represented much more than that. Don't even get me started on how popular culture has embedded the myth that the war was one of futility and needless sacrifice. I could rant for days! It would be my pleasure to send it to you mate, I'm a first year though so go easy
