To survive at some point very quickly we have got to change our style of play and 'let the brake off' without going hung go. A difficult balance I grant you. Look at all the years Wigan survived and they did it with a run of wins where they took the game to the opposition. At present our possession retain meant is woeful in fact embarrassing. IMO the style of football
We played against Hull away is something that we should be copying again the likes of Cardiff, Newcastle etc and it will take an awful lot of courage to do it against Liveool Man c and Chelsea but then again look at Villa on Saturdsy!

This

The ultra defensiveness we currently employ in trying not to lose games could be our undoing when teams around us actively look to win games (Fulham, Villa, WBA this weekend for example) whsilt tryong to keep it as tight as they can

Our draw at Sunderland gets rendered as meaningless when those around us get 3 points and lets be honest Sunderland are a side thats there for the taking if we were only bolder

D,

Look at Sunderland, they have beaten better sides than us this year, so could be a very valuable point (and denail of two points) come May!

They had won 3 home games all season! The Mail says today that we are the lowest scorers in the top four divisions with 23 goals in all competitions. 'A' for me - however, as was put on another thread, staying up at any cost is enough for the club as they will get 24/25 thousand every week to watch football in the Premiership no matter how negative the tactics are, compared with 16,000 who will turn up to watch attacking football in the Championship.

We are unlikely to win another game this season but will still survive on 33 points and about -25 GD. It will be more if we snatch an unlikely win on the break.

This is the best this group of players will achieve. Sorry, but when we opened up in other matches we had to [Swans] or were picked off [Spurs]. Saints we could and should have got a point. Man Utd is the only game where I was really disappointed by what was an anaemic performance.

The extensive research does not lie: it isn't scoring goals that keeps you up, it's not conceding them.

Thus...

Looks like this has split opinion, first of all we have to trust and back our manager who has turned our season round and given us hope when lets be honest there wasnt any. As a club our one focus should be on staying in this league, if that means another 9 nil-nils we will take it, then we can voice opinions on our style.

I do believe though that the team has to find a balance between this very defensive mode that we are currently in to a more offensive style... our strength for a majority of the season has been very solid as a defensive unit, when you think our most consistent players this year have been these players (Jules, Ward, Damon, Dann, Jedi).... that against our more attacking players being very inconsistent (Yannick, Punch, Cham, Jerome, Ince, AG).

This is where the manager is having problems, he just doesnt know what his best option is going forward because they are all not performing consistently...this is leading to a really defensive mindset, if we concede a goal we are struggling to get anything from the game.

Ideally we need these guys to hit a run of form, for instance Yannick to have a couple of good games in a row (the same could be said of Punch), we deffo miss Cham in the role behind Jerome or Murray, fingers crossed hes back soon. Would aslo be nice to see Thomas available for more than a game in a row!...id like to see AG or Bannan given a run instead of KG as well!

Saturday for me proved how important Chamakh is in the team, not bad tactics. He just proves for me that a lack of options have cost us points. The tactics are fine as far as im concerned...

D except pass the ball beter so we have a chance of hitting teams on the break. Anything else is suicide given the players we have and the teams we have to play.

We have to practise on freekicks an corners, as we will not score much from open play. We have som big and strong players and we really should be more threatening inthe air. Keep it tight and put away some corners.

Back the manager. This is a conversation to have in the summer.

Why? Those that don't have any opinions now won't have any in the summer either

Morons are on overdrive last 7 days.
Point at Swansea and Sunderland should be congratulated. If we attacked them more we probably would have lost giving them vital points. As TP said they were no lose games. We didn't so job done. Points over performance is more important.

Say if you want to see us play more positively and try to attack and win games.

Say (D) if you want to see us play as we are ie negatively very defensive absorbing pressure and trying to break out.

(This is of course in general as I know there would be variables ie who the opposition is etc)

Will give it 3 days then have a count up.

Then leave a reason if you want.. here's my Vote

Reason - Because we have proven this season we can ie Spurs 1st Half and Swansea 2nd half when we had to chase game.

Wheres the option for 'attack more' and get torn to pieces, conceeding two or three goals a game.

We're not playing negatively, we're playing positively, because we're playing the best approch we have available to win. Football, statistically is not about scoring goals, its about not conceeding them.

Its as if last season people think we were playing any differently. I distinctly remember us playing roughly the same formation, focusing on the wings and long balls.
