as others have said, Norwich look in big trouble.
I'm hopeing one above us, Swans, hammers or Hull will go on a terrible run,
although Hull seem to have the best of the remaining fixtures.
the other concern is the better goal difference of others(disregarding Cardiff & Fulham obviously)
really don't want to go to Fulham needing something

In The Observer today they have analysed the number of points per game achieved so far this season by the teams that each of the relegation threatened teams is facing from now on. This seems a reasonable measure of the degree of difficulty of our respective run ins.

Stoke 1.29
Hull 1.30
Aston Villa 1.34
West Brom 1.34
Fulham 1.38
Cardiff 1.41
Swansea 1.47
Norwich 1.48
Sunderland 1.51
Palace 1.51
West Ham 1.54

So only West Ham have a tougher run in than Palace.

BUT

If you factor in the gap the teams below us have to make up:

Fulham 4 points (5 allowing for their dreadful GD)
Cardiff 3 (effectively 4)
Sunderland 3.

then the article argues they'll have to go some to catch us up.

In the end no league was ever decided on paper, I think we all know it's going to be tight to the last game if only because we are Palace and we never do it the easy way!

I dont think you can really analyse our fixtures/performance like that. First of all, you have to take it from when pulis took over as we are a completely different team since he came in.

Secondly, if you were to look at pulis's away record since coming in it would suggest we're not great away from home (1W, 2D, 5L, 3 goals) but 4 of those 5 losses were against teams in the top 5, we only have one away game against tough opposition (everton) remaining, the other 4 are definitely winable, certainly drawable.

Similarly, 3 of our home games are against top teams, we've only had 1 home game against a top team this season under pulis (utd) and whilst we lost that game that certainly isnt enough evidence to suggest any sort of conclusion - we could end up not losing all three, we could be awful and lose all 3. Who knows?

Using statistics to predict football is a very risky game and rarely works and i'm not really sure why it's become so popular in recent years

Everyone seems to have a tough run in.
I still believe we need a bonus win against one of the big guys to achieve survival.

We will have to pose more of a scoring threat to win one.

I fancy our run in as generally pretty decent - Three really hard games out of the nine, and all at home where we've been strong, whilst our away games put our destiny in our own hands. If we can't pick up nine points from nine games as an average, then we deserve to be relegated.

I think West Ham, Stoke Swansea and Hull have enough to avoid relegation, but we can catch them. Sunderland, Norwich, West Brom and us are candidates for the last drop. Cardiff don't have enough to get out of it, and Fulham need yesterdays win to really kick start a recovery.

Saw this too - that and the article on the HOL are both good. Fulham, Sunderland and Cardiff all have to do better than they have already, we don't, we just need to continue as we have been. Presuming that's right then we just need to draw every game. This also means that a win means we can lose two.

They reckon 36 points is the magic number.

We will do it. But it will be at Fulham !

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue

agree, Hammers & Stoke look way too settled now, but got a feeling swans could slip further into trouble
(fingers crossed)

I really want us safe before Fulham - it would be a painful way to go down - esp if fulham are already down and playing for pride.

At the end of the day, we were favourites to go down, so anything above that is a bonus, but, if we need a result on the last game of the season, then, in all honesty, we probably deserve to go down - i'm not being disrespectful, but just the way i see it - it's like the play off, a team in the championship that finished 3rd get's knocked out by a team that scraped into 6th - i know it's not over til it's over, but i just couldn't handle that game - sheff wednesday was too much for me!! But.. having said that - it's palace, we don't do it any other way

My wish for the games vs the big guns, be a little braver and little less defensive! We've got nothing to lose to take the game to them, so far we're without a win against the top sides anyway.

I sort of agree that 36/37 points will be enough to just stay up this season, not the magic 40 total.

We have been very good at Home this season but they are a tough last few home games.

Home - Chelsea, Villa, Man City, Liverpool

If we could get at least 2 points from those and then a further 6 points from our away games :

Away - Newcastle, Cardiff, Everton, West Ham, Fulham

of course the perfect 2 to win away would be Cardiff and Fulham to open the gap a bit more.

Our last 2 away points against Swansea and Sunderland have been SO SO important !

I say we finish on 36 points and stay up. Fulham, Cardiff and Norwich to drop
