Tough to read, but hard to disagree with some points. Don't forget that his opinion comes from watching the 90 minutes last Saturday, not from seeing us play every week. ^This. We were poor last weekend, but Southampton should of had Lovren sent off for that foul on Bolasie. Still, he hasn't seen us play all season and is just a two-bit blogger.

This blogger is smug about his team's "beautiful football", but he shows his ignorance of the basic concept of the Premier League right now.

Yes Palace performance was poor (no one's denying it) but this smug Saints supporting blogger needs to take off his rose-tinted glasses. Southampton's solitary goal came from one appalling mistake by Puncheon and even then Rodriquez nearly fumbled it. There were just two (yes two, II, a pair) other shots on target from Southampton. The comments about "zero class or quality" could apply to both teams on Saturday. As for this being an 'ugly' victory, well step forward Clyne, Schneiderlin, Fonte, Lovren and Davis who between them earned Southamption 5 yellows to Palaces one. He does us one favour though - predicting that Sunderland will 'overhaul' us. Thanks smug bloggy bloke!

They're an excellent attacking team, with some real threats, and most of our performance was taken up with restricting that threat. Were we bad, I don't know, because I skipped the game (Real life) but against a lot of team we've been labelled as poor, but got good results, when maybe we'd have expected to get stuffed. Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are notorious for putting the 'little clubs' to the sword, but we've avoided being thrashed out right, and barring two games have been in it well into the second half. And that takes a lot of competence and ability. Sure we're not a great attacking threat or team, but our defensive capability is monumental, and thats why were not bottom of the league. We don't score many, but we don't conceed that many either. I think we're a lot better than some people give us credit for. We stiffle and shut down teams, and that p*sses them off, and it angers our fans because we aren't 'exciting, flashy like those other clubs'. If we were, we'd be bottom struggling to get above 11 points. Holloway tried to play them 'at their game' and we suffered. But the only reason we're not bottom of the league is because we're as miserily in front of goal, as we are in giving them away.

The point is to win the game, and points aren't awarded for aesthetics. The proponants of the 'Beautiful Game' should try Figure skating or Gymnastics.

Another deluded Saints supporter who thinks that because they "play football" they are better than the rest. Once the bigger clubs snap up their better players in the summer they will find they are a very different team next season.

Once the bigger clubs snap up their better players in the summer they will find they are a very different team next season. This. When Leylandi, Lambert and their lil mate Evans get snapped up by the big 6 and Mr Cappucino buggers off, they'll drop through the trapdoor quicker than me pulling the chain. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with what the blogger has written, I hope he's still as refreshingly honest when his team are back in league 1, harping back to the days that once were.....

Cant disagree with his assessment of Saturday though although he does gloss over the fact Lovren should have gone or Webb was awful - he has us pegged on the performance and we cant get away from that Id still smash his smug little girl face in though

oh and lets not forget the dreadful linesmen. I know we didn't play particularly well, but neither did they by any stretch of the imagination. And I agree with the other poster, if it wasn't because of some horrible circumstances we would be fielding a much stronger team from our very own youth set up. Edited by homes (11 Mar 2014 1.43pm)

I was actually quite disappointed with Southampton as I had been under the impression that they were going to be a lot better than they were. They went ahead from a Palace mistake and then fouled any player who tried to put two attacking passes together. A 0-0 bore draw would also have been a fair result for a poor match. Swansea played beautiful football last season and are struggling this one. I could see Southampton struggling near the bottom of the Premiership, with Palace, next season.
