I don't think the debating on here is any different to the discussions down the pub and arguments on the terraces of old. I remember some geezer used to slag Swindlehurst off something cronic calling him a handbag. I used to love it when Swindle scored and I would eyeball him with an added complimentary derogatory gesture for good measure too. Fans will always disagree about players, songs, ground, hooliganism, owners, rivals etc. Long may it continue in whatever format is popular at the time. You are completely wrong.

Hate to wee on the party but at the end of the day we are no different to anyone else's perception of there club. I must say the rise of the HF which in turn has turned our vocal support into something different has given us a bit of a label otherwise in the grand scheme of things 'you know' Hate to say it but like most things in life the most basic of life's fabric, sex, religion, violence (amongst others) will be at the root of peoples emotions and saying your a millwall fan will probably get the outsiders attention (for the wrong reasons) and make them 'us' as your title reads.

It's inside you Maple and us too, it makes grown men cry get angry and fight !! madness as it seems, just by kicking a ball around a field, its been debated and discussed many times but the rawness of the tribe culture driven by an intrinsic need desire to compete and go up against fellow men is woven into the male pysce We have no real enemies to fight anymore no tribe from thornton heath is coming to steal your food or rape your women from south norwood anymore, we have social moved on now we need to dress up 11 men in blue from a different place and give them a name then dress another 11 in red and give them a name too, then support them with passion, vigour and loyalty to the day you die WHY ? we dont know maple but like you WE ALL FEEL IT TOO

Problem at the moment is some people expecting success. We've never been successful, just exciting, so we start supporting the team because we just do. Our highs are few and far between but all the more special for that. Most seasons we have excitement from relegation, administration or promotion battles. Most of us became loyal supporters because of that. We probably wont stay up but if we do that will be really special and worth celebrating. Don't moan if things aren't going our way and really enjoy the good times when they come. In my opinion this is the true culture of Crystal Palace reply of the year

I have noticed a theme recently about the effects of new or returning supporters, the desire to get rid of idiots and songs that make many uncomfortable I have also noticed many people commenting that HOL isn't like it was, we seem to be turning in on ourselves and there is an unhealthy negativity. So I raise the question 'what do we want to be?' and a second question 'do we have any choice, can we really influence who we are?'. And I have a view to start us off. I have always felt that if you get enough tightly aligned people together with powerful voices you can make a difference, you can control your future and influence others. The old Bolshevik point of it only takes one man armed with a machine gun on each street corner to take a country. I therefore feel our bickering on this site is perfectly healthy and a part of establishing a culture and keeping it aligned. And that we should not be scared to be critical, it is what we are not that defines us as much as what we are. But we do need to have a core consensus if we want to have any impact whatsoever on our environment. So, are we anything special and anything different from other teams' supporters and other sites? And if so in what way?

Dull thread? Looking forward to your next fascinatingly interesting thread then. Actually, thinking about your response, I think the op may have an interesting point.

But we do need to have a core consensus if we want to have any impact whatsoever on our environment. So, are we anything special and anything different from other teams' supporters and other sites? And if so in what way? Peaks and troughs is my answer. Pompey were lauded as 'fans fans' when they were in the prem... I suspect every team has its 'moment' when the whole club fan base collectively charges the atmosphere. And then it ebbs. Palace are no different as, not so long ago, our 'support' was shyte. I also think that, the longer a team in in the prem, the more people who can afford it (but don't nessessarily love the club) will buy season tickets. Which is the start of Roy Keans 'prawn sandwich' brigade. The are enough prem clubs who are now in this situation. Fans who watch their club as if they are watching MOD. Finally, I have a few issues with the HF as a body (ie when they issue a 'statement' as if they're a political organisation), but there is no doubt in my mind they've been a monumental force for good in terms of support and atmosphere. Easy to mock the 'ultra' bit, but they sure as hell have made a difference.
