I've been up here most of the day and it was blatantly obvious hours and hours before that this game wouldn't go ahead. It was literally very hard to walk in the wind on the way to the ground at 6.30 and the local roads were already full of debris... so the Everton statement about everything being fine at 6.45 is complete and utter rubbish. There was absolutely no excuse whatsoever for leaving it so late. Forget about delaying the decision cos of commercial loss, it was unavoidable cos anyone with a single brain cell would've known by 5pm at the very latest that this should've been postponed. Even if it would've have been deemed safe to fans, playing football in such high winds would've been impossible. The timing is a complete disgrace. Edited by dave4343palace (12 Feb 2014 10.30pm)
George Courtney, the World Cup referee, everyone is looking at him. When will he blow....? |

Palace should offer free travel again when the game is re-scheduled - that's the least that the fans deserve. Maybe the FA can pay the club back as an apology but I doubt they care. Bureaucracy and money. Why should CPFC pay for something that was beyond it's control? The loss of money would either impede future growth, or push up ticket prices.

An apology for what exactly? The weather!? As should the government take the blame for all these floods!?!? Get a grip. Nobody is responsible for mother nature, or the current effect it is having all over the country.

Bit odd from the OP. Why do we need an apology? Don't think Everton are getting kicks out of making our fans and who knows some of their own fans travel from far only to cancel at the last moment. What did you want them to say? Sorry for considering you're safety but the game is off?

I was in the Goodison press room when the confirmation came through the game wouldn't be happening. It is annoying but just one of those things, would have been a complete farce had it gone ahead IMO.
A red weather warning is 'not one of those things', it is a very rare occurrence and put quite simply it was irresponsible to think that it was safe for fans of both clubs to travel to the ground. As soon as a red warning was issued, the game should have been cancelled. This should be a straightforward policy that the FA introduce for the safety of football fans. If train services are being stopped and roads are being shut reasonably local to the ground, what right does a football match have to take place? It appears that common sense has disappeared in circumstances like this and football is bowing to the pressures of financial gain (overseas tv contracts etc ) ahead of the safety of regular football fans. Bureaucracy and money. Or perhaps you can get a twitter account of your own and campaign to ask Barclays to lay on some free coaches? Why should the FA get involved? I think the body you're looking for (not that its relevant) is the Premier League.

Of course a decision could have been made earlier to prevent unnecessary travel particularly as a Red Weather Alert was issued by the Met Office at lunchtime & the M6 motorway was closed at 5pm Red alerts (potentially a danger to life) are rare & more heed should have been made of this by Everton FC as a Club & travelling fans Yes Everton have apologised but I heard that they weren't prepared to initially delay the KO even in the knowledge that the Palace official coaches were delayed in traffic & would not arrive in time for the scheduled 7.45pm KO The real problem is the Premier League who need to look at the midweek & Bank Holiday fixture scheduling to avoid fans having to take time off work to make long & difficult journeys when public transport is limited/ non existent Looking at tonight's fixtures for example it would have made more sense for Fulham to have played us & Everton to have played Liverpool As Barclays would say - We( the fans) are football yet are treated with utter contempt

Hopefully, lessons are learned and something similar won't happen again.

Has anyone seen any sign of an apology from everton for the palace fans who travelled today because i haven't My wife says that sometimes sorry just isn't enough and that you have to mean it or show it within your actions. But what does she know about football?

It was the OB who called the game off, not Everton FC. It wasn't the club's fault.
