Just think. When we are safe we've got exactly the same points aim to look forward to in August for another 9 months.

Great film that. Groundhog Day.

People seem to be forgetting that Southampton are an established top half side now, last night they drew with Arsenal, so I think it's optimistic to suggest we'll take 3 points from them. They're significantly better than us.

I won't begrudge us being that position! Let's get this reason out of the way, but next season we would potential just need to better the three promoted teams. Easy right?

well, in my opinion those predictions are way too optimistic.
Winning 4 matches away from home in 8 matches?? I wish we would... but that is fantasy, not football.
I think Hoof Hearted one is the most realistic prediction, and would see us safe in my opinion.
I said it from the day they released the fixtures: we need to have 30 points by March 15, because we won't get many after that date.
It seems the lads can do it!

Any other season and I'd look at that fixture list thinking we'd be fortunate to make 11/12 points but what encourages me is the fact that City only managed to get 1 goal past us. We're very solid as a unit and as such we've got a good chance of getting something out of pretty much all of those games. I don't know how some people can be negative, we've never stayed up in my lifetime but this is by far our best chance...bring it on!

Am I being too optimistic to think it might go more like this?

West Brom (3)
Man Utd (1)
Southampton (3)
Chelsea (0)
A Villa (3)
Man City (0)
Liverpool (0)

Arsenal (0)
Everton (1)
Swansea (1)
Sunderland (3)
Newcastle (1)
Cardiff (3)
West Ham (3)
Fulham (3)

I would say out of the teams we have left to play as long as all of Sunderland,Cardiff,West Ham and Fulham don't get maximum points of us we should be ok. We obviously need to win a couple of games and get a few draws or whatever way round but you need to take points of the bottom teams around you so as long as none get maximum points off us they will not be gaining on us during that game so that should be our aim.

The thing to consider is everyone elses games - we cant in isolation say we might get so many here or so many there to reach a magic number

All the clubs in the bottom 10 or 11 will be doing the same and all we need to do is look to win as many as we can and the total and table will look after itself.

If I was a Norwich fan I would want to be safe before the last 4 games thats for sure

Last night was hugely pivotal though - we have a cushion, albeit small, to the bottom three and mentally for us (and their fragility) thats a great thing to have

After much thinking into the wee hours I came to the conclusion that 13 points more will be enough this season. Maybe even just twelve.

Doesn't sound much but it still is a huge challenge.

36 points.

I really can't see any of the bottom three getting 19 points from their last 15 games. And even if one team does then we always have Fulham and Stoke to rely on to lose their form and drop down.

Last night was the biggest three points. That gap to West Ham is looking big right now.

I think we need 38 minimum

Problem is that it you can't really tell from the table, as a run of games against top sides really distort concepts of form. We went bottom last time because we had Spurs, when everyone else around us had winnable games.

But we do have enough 'winnable games' in the mix to cross the assured safety line. As long as we don't go through another slump like we did up to Pulis coming in, we've got every chance of hitting safety before the last few weeks.

And given our closing fixtures, it'll be important to put ourselves safe before the last few weeks.

with the way things are in the league, i think whoever stays up, can get away with less than 40 points this season. Maybe 38 or 37?
