Quote Seth at 21 Jan 2014 4.36pm

I have total confidence in Iain and Steve getting in the right players at the right prices."

I find that quote very worrying and I would imagine that Tony Pulis isn't too enamoured with it either.

If "Iain and Steve" are running the transfer show shouldn't Tony Pulis's title be coach and not manager

No? Moody is tasked to get the players that Pulis wants. Moody then has to get Parish to write the cheques. All Pulis needs to do is his job which is manage the team he has. He seems to be doing that fine so lets hope the two in charge of the ins/outs can agree a couple of deals.

If that is the case I wonder why SB didn't say "I have total confidence in Iain and Steve getting in the players that Tony wants at the right prices."

Perhaps because it's not necessary?

But it is necessary even if just to avoid stories appearing in The Mirror that all is not right between the three of them

Well we will have to disagree then. The papers will print what they think will sell, especially regarding Football. Our chairmen have always been pretty upfront with the fans over dealings and the structure they have set regarding wages. They also told us why they appointed Moody so I really don't think they need to reinstate it every time they talk about transfers.

Regarding a supposed "showdown" between Moody, Parish & Pulis, SB says: "No showdowns, just updates on where we are."

Wouldn't expect him to publicly admit there had been a showdown though.

Yep im afraid so. Always felt it would be the same as always but had hopes that lessons would have been learnt and Iain Moody's spreadsheets we would have done better by now. Troubles lie ahead with TP if we fail in tnis window imo

Christ on a bike. They're trying to get players in at the right prices for the club so we don't screw up financially again. What in any small way is farcical about that?

There is no evidence whatsoever that TP is getting the hump. He obviously would have discussed transfer tactics in this window when he signed on the dotted line and he's said as much.

But feel free to stir it up and create a nonsense scenario

I can remember roughly forty plus years ago, finding out that Steve Kember had been sold on the BBC1 Nine o' Clock news. I don't think I ever heard a single word come out of Arthur Wait or Raymond Bloye's mouth. The board was there to run the club (badly, as it turned out). Not to comment on football business. Whether that model is better than today's is, I suppose, a matter of opinion but I cannot say the wittering of a chairman on matters related to players has ever enriched my life. Personally, the only voice I really want to hear related to Palace is TPs.

The board are in the right here. It's the rest of then league that needs to catch up. If there is X amount of income, then purchases have to fall within a budget.

Can't wait for supposed 'financial fair play' to kick in, if it ever does. The fact that West Ham are able to offer £85k per week to a 31 year old striker is unfortunate on us in the short term, but I'm not sure it will do them any favours 2 years down the line.

Look at Bolton, Leeds, Portsmouth. Once you drop, it's very hard to come back. But at least we'd go down stronger. The league will be more competitive once teams work within sensible budgets. When Manchester United struggle to compete in the market, what chance have we got?!

For what it's worth, I actually think we can survive as we are. A couple of reinforcements would be great, but not essential.

It shows the gulf between the board and HOL. Posters here want to sign a gay player. The board want to put irons in the fire.

I agree with most of this. Yes i think we have a chance of survival too but only if we secure 1 or 2 strikers/goal scorers. I dont think anyone is expecting £8m -10m being spent on one player but i think alot of us were expecting something by now, TP clearly was. Im not asking for wholesale changes or us to risk our future but being irresponsible but just investment to secure our place in the PL. I really hope we get someone in who can put the chances away we tend to reguarly miss. Id hate to think we went down because we didnt get a striker we are crying out for
