goldberg and jordan already made fools of us as a club. A boy from.the youth team was the difference in the play offs between us brighton and watford. Dont forget where you came from and how you got there.

being sustainable as a club means upsetting a few people then i applaud the owners. There is no definitive guide to running a club

Not a very positive thread Maxi, you must be furious Bannon, Williams, Gayle played no part in out victory yesterday, sort of dispels your bollocks that you constantly bang on about.
Its clear we need more quality, its ok to spend money wisely. I trust Tony Pulis to do that As he has experience, you should do the same as should CPFC2010.

i'd rather have one big signing than several smaller ones.

remember people said the exact same thing about arsenal during the autumn transfer window

If we rush right in and sign someone at the start of a window, it looks like the player got what he asked for. Negotiating until the end of a window puts pressure on the player to possibly accept a lower fee.

Our fixtures have actually helped us with this strategy by having Stoke and Hull, two winnable matches in close proximity.

If we have our eye on a couple of prospects for the end of the window, they will be ready for the Arsenal game. In the mean time, we have the Wigan game, to run out some prospects or players recovering from injury.

I think Hull got mugged into buying a couple of players at the start of the window. Didn't have much impact against Norwich at the weekend.

I'm quietly confident that we still have enough time left in this season to move up the table into relative security, mess it all up again, and have a final day battle.

I know a lot more than TP about somethings but I know nothing about managing in the EPL. Good news is that I seem to be in good company ( Poyet? Moyes? Allardyce?) We are 17 points behind last year's EPL champions! Any odds on that?

Actually, beneath the mirth there's a good point here. You don't know more about managing in the Premiership than Moyes or Allardyce, but you have about the same amount of experience as Solskjaer, Meulensteen, and Poyet. For me, that actually makes Cardiff, Fulham, and Sunderland favourites to go down. If one of those doesn't, my money's on West Ham to replace them as sometimes a team simply falls apart to a degree that it gains its own downward momentum. We do not necessarily have one of the 17 best squads in this league, but we do have one of the 5-8 best managers and I think that may be enough to keep us up.

If he's backed financially yet prudently by the board Syd I tend to agree.

To suggest we spend nothing and add nobody in the window shows a crashing unawareness of whats required.

Holloways scatttergun approach is the summer is not what we are looking at but two or three players in key positions to add depth (and also someone who can hit a cows arese with a banjo)is a must if we are serious about staying up

I saw somewhere the total value of the Dann deal with transfer and wages is £15m - thats an obvious no, but being financially prudent we can still add some quality.

'' Made fools of us as a club '' ? And those guys lost most of their personal fortunes along the way.

That boy from the youth team was part of the infrastructure that was invested in - the Academy.

You are right, people are going to find the sustainable strategy tough to take, but there has to be a limit to that or the club becomes uncompetitive and starts to get a reputation for being unambitious.

The bottom line is that 2010 hired - at significant cost - a proven PL manager. If that manager says we need to bring new players in to give us a better chance of staying up, I trust his judgement.

A couple of signings would be positive. Apologies if this all sounds a bit familiar:

One up front to help us threaten and convert a few more of the chances we have been making. The Danish lad Makienok being mentioned might fit the bill? Unless Murray's return is imminent, and perhaps even if it is, we need more to throw at it in attack.

One at the back to compete with DD & Gabbidon, and ultimately take over from the latter who is doing a sterling job but is 34 years old. Better to get someone in to start integrating and give another option now, rather than leave it to the summer. Not Dann though, due to the stupid money involved, so the question is can they find the right man?

I think one or both of those would not only improve the squad and options, but give a signal of intent and boost to the current players.

Potentially making signings give us a better chance of staying up but it isnt fullproof. It gives managers options but whose to say we havent got the right personell here already. I dont believe everything a manager says. He made a rash assertion about our defensive qualities which i think he has since reconsidered. This isnt Stoke where he had a rich benefactor willing to splash large amounts.

The manager, and as that's what we employed him for, we really should listen to him.
