People go on like there is some big conspiracy. Also people moan about how we need more players yet when competition causes one to be out of the first team it suddenly means he is being sold!? That makes sense. I feel there are 2 clear reasons why bannan has been dropped. The first is his fitness.. he has visibly and consistently tired in games at the later stages... this being in the main because he didnt get a preseason after being frozen out at villa. Number 2 is because TP doesnt favour him in centre mid so he is only being considered as a winger and at present we have 2 wingers who have disloged him from the team. Yannick and Punch are playing well so bannan is out at the mo. TP favours playing the same 11 consistently so until he feels one of those 2 should be dropped he is going to stick with them.

we missed him on the pitch yesterday at set pieces, the delivery at corners and free kicks was wasteful, barry is the best set-piece taker in the club and we could have had more goal scoring opportunities if he had been taking them

I must be in the minority this time because i think he is in the doghouse for his reaction when he got subbed early recently. He hasn't started since after starting all the first phase of games under Pullis. I think he was the obvious replacement for Guidiora when he tired yesterday which added to my theory. Shame really. But hey, we won again EAGLES! in Pullis we trust! Quote Mangopablo at 18 Jan 2014 9.18pm
Does anyone know if Barry Bannan is in the TP dog house for any reason or if he is simply not getting in the starting eleven?

1. TP came to Palace knowing Jerome slagged him off rotten. Jerome carried on playing. TP is a professional and is 100% focused on survival. 2. As has been said, the Prem is the most physical league. Bannan & Williams aren't the biggest to shrug off high impact stuff. 3. As has also been said, TP wants 2 def mids and 2 pacey wingers, just as he had Etherington & Pennant at Stoke. It worked at Stoke and it's worked for us. If we haven't got that then Bannan gets picked. 4. O'Keefe came on around 70mins after going 1-0 up 15 mins befores. He decided to go for a def mid instead of a more attacking one. It worked this time. Edited by Rudi Hedman (19 Jan 2014 5.22pm)

It is unfortunate we won't see much of Bannan and Williams but hopefully as a Prem club next season we will. They're losing out to players already at the club so they're not being ignored for expensive cloggers. I think we've got enough grit for the middle of the park, it's elsewhere we need new players.

Pulis favours power and height hence why ward has been moved to midfield and guedioura has been preferred to gayle. He knows what this league is all about, it's very physical and it's about imposing yourself so you have a platform to get results. It's working. Unfortunately Bannan doesn't fit that at the moment and pulis rightly favours the team over individuals
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |
