When have you ever heard the media question a Director of Football? A Director of Football provides all the information and options, whether they think they steer the ship or not. Damien Commolli (spelling may be wrong) was often interviewed when he was at both Spurs and Liverpool. Beguiristan has held media brieifings at Man. City. All of us have heard David Gill responding to questions in his time as Fergie's transfer handler at Man Utd. Ditto Peter Kenyon in Mourinho's first stint at Chelsea. The role is not invisible. It is perhaps a salutary lesson that at those four clubs, the DoF's rather than the chairmen have been the ones to make the occasional comment about transfer policies. In contrast, when have you ever heard John Henry, or Sheikh whatever his name is, or the chairman of Arsenal (don't even know his name), or any of the Glazer's directly comment on their (successful) clubs budget? Three of the four owners of Palace seem happy to be seen and not heard. I suppose I should be thankful for that.

Essentially you are comparing multi-national customer base businesses with a local business. And currently the size we are, Parish can be involved in everything, the people at those clubs cannot. When Parish is asked I'd rather he plays down our budget and spending intentions so when sellers receive the call they don't add £500k or more on top. Wage demands will rarely drop at this level for proven players with time left on contracts unless they've not played Prem football yet. At the end of the day it's not that big an issue what he's said, as long as the players TP is agreeable they're good for the positions and roles he needs. Anything else means sh1t right now. A new player wasn't needed yesterday and Jelavic missed a good chance yesterday. We will need them and we will get them, not to rush them in and drop points.

I just wish Steve Parish would give it a rest about spending and give us, the fans some credit and realise we all f***in know we are not in the big spenders bracket! Edited by bertshead (19 Jan 2014 12.11pm) They will be the ones that currently make up half the team and the bench most match days?

I hope Parish was playing the transfer game because if we don't spend in the next 2 weeks we will most probably go down. If we don't then Pulis may be our greatest ever manager.

The rest were mainly not disasters. Probably about a quarter of them weren't good options, the rest have either been injured or rushed in with 4 Palace debuts being made. We essentially had the same back 6, all we needed to do was minimise the changes. Millen and now TP are doing it and playing with less emphasis on dictating the game.

Worse case why cant we stay up without any signings ?? Look where we are now to where we thought we may be and in comparison to at least 6 other sides I cant see a massive difference, team is gelling momentum is building players we have are punching above there weight and rising to the challenge take delaney as one example.. Just saying

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. - John Bostock (Nov 2007) |

Out of Chamakh, Jerome and Gayle, the finishing isn't clinical enough. Don't rely on Murray and being disappointed.

Probably the same as what we would have done if these two had got injured after the first game of the season.

Edited by bertshead (19 Jan 2014 12.11pm) This is just ridiculous. We have a straight-talking owner who tells it like it is. He also happens to be one of four local businessmen who got us out of the mire. He doesn't hog the limelight, he went on BBC to answer questions that the fans were raising. Compare him with aggressive thugs like Ken Bates, or even Ron Noades, and he comes across as a decent fair-minded bloke who has saved the club once and doesn't want to lose a fortune like Jordan and Goldberg. Which particular clown would you prefer as owner? Vincent Tan? Mike Ashley?
