Well okay, if you don't want the death penalty to be reintroduced. They should at least make it so that a "life" sentance does mean life and not 25 years. Okay so Huntley got 2 life sentances (50 years), but if you get a life sentance surely it should mean that you are going to die in prison? Not the fact you will be out in 25 years. In America a life sentance means a life sentance. we should introduce that over here.

one smash in his face with that wrecking ball meerkat and it would all be over for him - easy! but you would be haunted by the sight of what you had done forever - or would that make you feel good? Edited by Bexter (19 Dec 2003 11:39am)

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. - John Bostock (Nov 2007) |

why would he be let out and not brady or hindley? he wont be out, and if he was he'd be linched in seconds. and how on earth can you say what i would want if it happened to me? jeez.... weird! i would hope i would be as dignified in my response as sarah paynes mother. and a question - have the families said they want him dead? i know his own mother has but she is just crying out to get people not to hate her i would think.....

After Huntley was handed two life sentences for their murders, Mr Chapman said the next time he sees the former school caretaker he wants him to be "in a coffin". Sounds like he wouldn't have minded the death sentence to me. I wasn't being weird when I asked that question, I was just making a point that I, and a lot of other people, would want somebody dead if they murdered our family members. If Huntley satys health, and doesn't kill himself, it's likely he will be released. He's in prison for 50 years. Yes he'll be 80-odd when he is released, but there is still a possibility.

i took that comment to mean him not being let out or seen again until he was coming out of the prison dead ie of old age.... but i could be wrong.

absolutely not. firstly, it doesn't work as a deterrent - look at the US. secondly, being in prison for life is possibly worse, thirdly killing someone is wrong, full stop. whomever does it, including our justice system. it's sick. also, if you did open it just for definite cases - who decides they are definite? once the floodgates were opened there is the risk of many innocents dying - what about all those women accused of killing their babies by that dodgy professor? what about the birmingham six..... winston silcott..... etc etc etc!! I agree with Rebecca on this one!

the fact that Huntley attempted to take his own life I am sure he would prefer capital punishment himself. Why give him an easy way out? 50 years in Solitary... sounds much worse to me.
