The history for the reason of the rivalry is not the 1976 cup match which is always trotted out as standard. It was certainly there at the August 1974 game at the Goldstone. That was the first time the clubs had met for 11 years and Palace had just dropped from the old 2nd Division to the 3rd. The hatred started much before that in an interview between Mullery and Malcolm Allison on ITV's The Big Match in 1970........ That sparked the rift between Mullery and Allison and why Mullery hated Palace - because Allison became our manager. Venables carried it on, but the hatred was always there....... Meltdown? Hardly...... we are honours even over the season, both winning 3-0 at home, but we are still in a better position than you are..... we are 3 points off 2nd place.... you aint even in the playoffs. Jog on mate...... your little wind up hasn't worked.

Best post i have read for a long time, lot of truths nicely disguised.40 years of Red and Blue, not even a 3-0 away loss to Brighton can ever change that......

I think you'll find The Meltdown is not at The Palace. It's where it always is : at The Royal Festival Hall and curated this year by Yoko Ono.

Our 1st loss away in Brighton for 25years is hard to take for us hard core Palace supporters however sad it is and how hard it is to take I think fans should leave out the twitter abuse to the players and manager. It shows passion and frustration for giving a large amount of parttime plastics reason to gloat : .

Brighton fan's view on Palace whingers:
It would appear that Steve Parish has got himself embroiled in a public slanging match on Twitter again with Palace fans as he had the downright cheek to congratulate us on our win. This has led to the rehashing of an old argument with certain fans still furious at his treatment of Freedman. It’s descended into Parish asking other fans to grass up the Twitter bullies so he can set the force of the law on them and also ban them from Selhurst for life. Palace players have also got themselves in Twitter fest arguments about their commitment following the St Patricks Day Rout. Holloway ,apparently, IS a West Country idiot- he got the tactics wrong - the substitutions wrong - he complained at getting his coat wet while thousands of Palace stood in the soaking wet in abject humiliation - he also dismissed the game as just another game and he doesn’t get the rivalry – Gus does! Fans are turning on fans on the internet as they argue about the defeat. Some now say we aren’t their true rivals – others disagree. To the game itself – they bossed it until we scored ! we shouldn’t have scored – we are cheating diving injury feigning nancy boys – the ref gave everything to us – it rained – the pitch was wet which suited our hoof ball style – it shouldn’t have rained – it was the wrong rain – they got wet we didn’t. Kuszczak should be arrested for inciting a riot – the vertical finger pointing Zaha of last week apparently forgotten – Williams ran the show – their fullbacks had bad games – Dikgacoi should never play for them again. We never sang – they didn’t like our songs – we left early – they never leave early – the Palace who did leave early got held back by Police in the rain – The Police marched them too far aimlessly up & down Queens Road pre match – post match The Police made them stand on Falmer station in the rain – it was cold – it had puddles on it – it never rains in Croydon. Meanwhile at the Selhurst beamback all was not well – apparently the score was the same as at the Amex – they didn’t like that –more people turned up than expected – a Selhurst first! - the picture quality was poor – the beer ran out – it was too expensive (£15) – the food was s***e – they lost 3-0. And so it goes on and on – and to think we suffered a heartbreaking last minute 2-3 defeat at Withdean , the 5-0 & 3-0 defeats at Selhurst and the 1-3 Amex humiliation. We were upset and down but I don’t recall us turning on each other to this degree – some Clubs just don’t have any class.

You couldn't blame them if they did. On the Evening Argus website Poyet quite often rubbishes the club and says they aren't good enough for promotion after defeats but when they win he'd virtually drive them to the Champions League himself. With that man at the helm you can't blame their supporters for being quite fickle and confused. But I'm not posting that to get a rise, this guy's post is fairly accurate it seems. I'll be chastised for this but the actual Brighton fans I have spoken to (I work in Brighton so I know a good handful of season ticket holders) have all been sporting and knowledgable about the subject. The stick I have had has been from Liverpool and Spurs fans who, all of a sudden, are calling Brighton 'us' and 'we' in conversation. Those are the really irritating people and I'm sure amongst the Albion hardcore they aren't necessarily regarded as proper fans. All my ranting on Twitter after the game actually ended up in a Brighton fan adding me and laughing with me rather than at me. I do personally see Brighton as our biggest rivals (just because of where I am based) and will admit that despite only being at home with a commentary I was gutted by the result. We still have a few games left where it is still all wide open and if we go up to the Premier League this will be a bit of a distant memory. Sure it's a sore subject now and we have a long wait for our next game to hopefully rebuild some pride. Edited by Part Time James (19 Mar 2013 1.19pm) Edited by Part Time James (19 Mar 2013 1.22pm)

He is obsessed with Palace and with attendance figures. He keeps stating how Br*ghton are the twelfth biggest team in the country because for one a half years their 5,000 weirdos have been joined by 15,000 South Coast based Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd in going to Falmer. Interesting thing is that it would appear that Br*ghton could be heading for meltdown, if their Neanderthal looking manager ditches them in making the step up to manage Reading. So in summary, the OP is a Palace obsessed t*** with chips on both shoulders, and has probably never seen a naked pair of female breasts.

He also knows all the away attendance of all the teams in the championship....how sad...even the weeds are sick of him..attendances are just about all he ever posts, and you are probably correct, doubt he has ever seen a naked woman, visions of him 20stones, in front of his computer, going between the FA attendance charts and p***..typing one handed.

Silent all these years. Good win for Brighton definately, but its the first in 26 years! Us palace fans need to get some perspective before they go harranging the owners etc. Sometimes you lose. Heres to another 25 years unbeaten and the memory of being the first league team to win at the Brighton!
