I stand corrected then.
Was it CANNON BLYTH BELL MULLIGAN ?

I looked at the Complete Record, but as he played nearly 700 games I didn't do anything really scientific.

A large chunk of his career was at 5, alongside Ian Evans and Billy Gilbert who were both 6. But the last few seasons he was mainly at 6, alongside Nebbeling and Droy who wore 5.

However, his first couple of seasons were mainly at 3, until Kenny Sansom appeared and then Jim moved to 5 more or less permanently for about 8 years.

So I'd say roughly:-

5 - 50%
6 - 30%
3 - 15%
4, 9, etc - 5%

Does that help? Why not put his total appearances on there (657) ?

Thanks all for the information!

Now I just have to decide between:

5 - Cannon
10 - Mabbutt

Cannon is the legend, but remember Mabbutt from when I was a kid as a great forward.

Tough decision...

That's an idea I haven't thought of!!!

A bit OT: but the new shirts (not the slim fit version), are they "big" or "small".

That is to say: if you normally have M, should one go for that or a L?

I don't have an away shirt with Palace, so that would be really nice

I think this assessment is pretty spot on.

The percentages may not be entirely accurate, but close enough.

5 was definitely the shirt number that Jim wore most in my opinion.

Cannon made his debut at 6.
He wore several numbers early in his career but as Teejay said it was 5.

Mabbutt started at 9 but mainly 10.

PS in those days a number usually went with a position.

Unlike AKINBADBUY 55.

always thought Kevin Mabbutt was number 8?

ok cheers Alan, remember the adidas red n blue stripe, with the red rose super market sponsor, he was 8 then, and that I think was 84. In them days numbers were so important.
