I also believe that the "MR X" was John Byrom of Bolton and I think he guested for us in a Friday night friendly at home to PSV Eindhoven in early 1971 in which we were well beaten. Our immediate form after this match was awful and we fell down the table like a stone. I am exactly the same - From about 1992 ish its all a blur

It was Malcolm X but he was tragically shot just before he was about to sign for Palace. This was a tragedy as Malcolm had a goal a game strike rate and fantastic assists/tackle ratio.
