Recommend his book "Riding Through The Storm: My Fight Back to Fitness on the Tour de France" plenty in it about CPFC

Recommend his book "Riding Through The Storm: My Fight Back to Fitness on the Tour de France" plenty in it about CPFC I was speaking with him just after the Cup Final that year and he was an extremely modest and honest guy.He was upset though as his camera,which he used to take photos of the suppoters at Wembley,went missing from the dressing room during the match.
........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history..................... |

Had a great chat with him on the night of our promotion in '89 in Crystals. Again, like everyone else, found him so down to earth and just a good laugh really. He'd missed the last half of that season due to a hernia operation. As you can imagine a few drinks had been had that night, and at one point in hysterics, he whipped his trousers down and showed me his scar. Very funny guy. Didn't think twice about making the 800 mile trip the other year for his Charity match. I do regret though that outside Palace he seems forever remembered for that bloody miss for England against France. I think people forget sometimes what an impact he had on a game. I remember one match at home to Leicester where we won 4-2, and he was literally bloody everywhere! A mate of mine used to joke at the time that he was a remote control robot and Coppell sat there on the bench vigorously moving the joystick up, down and round and round throughout the 90 mins. Bloody hell: Thomas, Gray, Wright, Bright, Martyn, Salako - we couldn't bloody lose! Having seen all Geoff's home games for us and a bundle away, he is definitely in the top 10 players this club have ever had. £50,000 from Crewe: unbelievable.
