I think some posters have got their seasons mixed up. We bought Gerry Francis & Mike Flanagan at the start of the season & they featured a good deal at the expense mostly of Kember & Walsh. Great times though & some very notable victories along the way.

just a thought...

has anybody got any old programmes from 1979-80 with player appearances in?

The Player Database from this site lists the players from that season but only has overall appearances: [Link]

Halcyon days, does any one remember Doris' goal against Liverpool in the 3-2 defeat in the FA cup, I bet Ray Clemence does!

Would be interesting to see who would come out top in a game between Palace 79/80 and 90/91, two distinct different type of football but both effective.

Thank you CPFC2010 for keeping me interested in football, for me no Palace no football either. Come on you Eagles.

I remember that goal vividly. A screamer from about 35 yards at Whitehorse end... The only time I saw my Dad get truly excited at a football match, he did a Ferguson!

Most certainly not European.

Rarely gets a mention but the one jigsaw piece we severely missed and never really replaced adequately was our potentially great forward - albeit short-term due to carrer ending knee-injury - Mike Elwiss.

Not as good as Van Basten but our version of him. Strong, could pass, head and play proper attacking football. Better than Swindle imo and I mean that as a huge compliment. Swindle was super. With him who knows what may have happened at Selhurst?

Greatest Palace side ever, thought anything was possible, when you remember Forest were Kings of Europe.Suppose sale of Kenny was the begining of the end.

The 78/79 Div.2 championship winning side played some lovely football - a very stylish passing game keeping the ball on the ground.

The 79/80 side continued to do so but things seemed to turn sour after we were given a drubbing at Liverpool in December. It may have only been 3-0, but they totally outclassed us and it seemed to dent our self-belief. After that we were never quite the same again
