We've had some great keepers over the years I've watched Palace... can't really remember any specific saves, but just off the top of my head I would rate the keepers I've seen thus... 1. Martin

Remember Alex Kolinko at Newcastle when he sprinted from the corner flag to his goal-line to somehow save a shot?
I think Martyn's been our best keeper - certainly since I've been watching Palace - but Kolinko has probably pulled off several of the best saves.
The Three Twerps were one twerp short... again! |

Nigel Martyn is Palace's best keeper, but for me the likes of Kiraly and Kolinko have pulled off some fantastic saves. Best save ive witnessed at Palace: Last season's 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough, Gary O'Neil decided to be cocky and try a short-range chip, but Speroni palmed it away with one hand. I was instantly on my feet appalauding Jules for making that save.
"Look at that. Accident blackspot? These aren't accidents! They're throwing themselves into the road gladly! Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness!" |

Nico Vaesen save one on one against Zamora in play-off final with score still at 0-0. As much as I hate to say it but Millwall on boxing day (Dowies 1st game????) Tony Warner saved a bullet of a pen from AJ bottom corner. Still can't believe he saved it.

How about Perry Suckling's tip over the bar from Blackburn's Simon Garner in the 1989 play-off second leg?

Nico Vaesen save one on one against Zamora in play-off final with score still at 0-0. The out-stretched save from Steve Lomas and also Michael Carrick were also very good.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I instantly thought of that save from Nige. Was against Andy Booth, I was sitting in Holmesdale block E at the time and was amazed at how he'd saved it. Rightly was in both Palace and Leeds' all time teams. As a kid, Nige was my hero. If Jules commits to the club (doubtful) he will overtake him in my book.

I can't remember any particular saves, but what about John Burridge. Mad as a box of frogs, but a great keeper for us in that famous promotion team of 1979. I remember his acrobatic warm up on the pitch before every game.

When comparing the merits of the many fine keepers who Old 'uns will remember John Jackson as not only an extremely reliable and agile keeper but also as a very brave one. In his day, keepers were fair game for any challenge in the air and many were often bundled into their net still clutching the ball from an aerial 'shoulder charge' Nowadays they are well protected (some say over protected) so this element in the art of keeping goal is not now relevant. The only criticism I have of today's keepers is their tendency to go for high balls with one leg agressively outstretched as a deterrent. This should not be allowed. So I'd put Jackson ahead of Martyn with Bill Glazier a close third in the rankings. Not forgetting Vic Rouse

Jacko's save V Man City, mentioned earlier, stands out for me. But Speroni has pulled off some stunners in the last couple of years.

How about Perry Suckling's tip over the bar from Blackburn's Simon Garner in the 1989 play-off second leg? I very rarely comment on here but had to second this. I'm not saying it was the greatest save that I've seen by a Palace keeper but it certainly rekindles some fantastic memories, I can picture it as if it was yesterday!
