The 95/96 season opener against Barnsley, i remember the Holmesdale had just been constructed and wasn't open yet.

We won 4-3, Dowie netted 2 goals that day. How time flies, eh?

And thus begun my love for Palace....

"Look at that. Accident blackspot? These aren't accidents! They're throwing themselves into the road gladly! Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness!"

The first game that I can remember was Notts Forest in the FA Cup Feb 1965.
Was with my Dad in the Whitehorse.
I feinted !
Dad took me to the St.Johns Ambulance Hut in the corner.
We won 3-1 crowd 41,667 a record at the time.
We went out to Leeds in the next round, crowd 45,384 another record crowd.

Palace 13th 2017/18.

I was at both those games unforgettable, I suspect with modern refereeing, Leeds would have ended with very few players.
My first was against Bristol Rovers in 63, Arthur Rowe was still managing, we were already promoted to div 2, Ronnie Allen's last match I think, saw Bill Glazer in goal, to me he looked like superman, able to fly dramatically above the penalty area, magic!!

Just looked it up Dick Graham had taken over.
Allen played more games.
Bill Glazier was a great goaly.

I`m very much like HoofHearted and Eagle in Kernow I remember going with my dad,`Glad all over` was in charts(1st Time-64/65?)at the Homesdale end and banging the boarding around the ground as all kids did then.Yes Claret & Blue, was the colour, who we played was immaterial,it was the banging I enjoyed most, and meeting my match day mates every week after....but it set up to be a part of Palace for years...Oh such memories

My Dad insisted he introduced me in the right way, so he took me to a miserable 1-0 home loss to Birmingham City. A headed goal by Martin Grainger, I believe circa 1996/97

As far as I can remember and/or been told....

1989 - Palace vs Man Utd.. finished 1-1... apparently I fell asleep for 30 minutes of the game! (I was only 6 years old!)

I met Bill shortly after he had left us for Coventry and he had a broken leg, hadn't played in a lot of games before the break.
We were out for a beer and he was with a guy named Curtis, who was tough nut centre back for Coventry, but he was actually a great guy.
Shame he left when he did but there was a bit of unrest at the club then, which caused his departure to some extent.

........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history.....................

Living in Wiltshire at the time (and now even further away in Bristol), the first Palace game I saw was in 1997 I think, when Palace played at Swindon when I was 13 or 14- having already supported Palace for a few years, albeit having never seen us play a game in person! I think we won, but it was a miserable wet day- sat in Swindon's uncovered away end too!

I've seen a lot more games since of course, first one at Selhurst was against Sheffield United a couple of years later- a 1-1 draw to analyse on the long journey home
