I should add that I don't consider the idea that someone might wish for a united Ireland as being an unacceptable belief. But what I do consider as unacceptable is the supporting of the IRA or violence as the conduit by which it is achieved. However the sad reality is that violence did achieve a huge amount for Irish republicanism. They were essentially bought of with the Danegeld that was power. The long game is theirs with demographic change. The 'no surrender' turned into 'surrender' but with warm words and creating equivalencies was one of the means of doing that. Well they did have a cosy relationship with Ulster Unionists in Parliment, who also didn't condemn loyalist terrorism. I see little difference between Paisley and Adams, truth told. The DUP's relationship with the UDA, UVF and UFF is pretty much the same as Sinn Fein and the IRA.
