To be honest, and no offense, but I'm a bit tired justifying why I voted the way I did. I made considerable contributions to this thread in the lead up and aftermath of the vote (the point at which a all contracted super-gonorrhea, entered recession, lost 10% on house values, lost 500,000 jobs, had a punishment budget forced on us....). You're welcome to go hunt for my posts on here about the EU. There's plenty of them, and they are long. I just don't see the value in engaging with these "why did you vote Brexit" arguments any more. Those arguments were won over 3 years ago. It's because you want Farage as the new State Governor of England. And coincidentally that is also what he has agreed with Trump, so that's all good.

I've been told I come across argumentative in my emails, so I would think it's the same on these boards. I just like to get to the point, I suppose. I'm not trying to 'catch you out' in anyway, it's your right to vote and you can vote how you want. It's just that your link basically had in order 1) Making decisions 2) Immigration and a third I can't recall now. But I imagine No.1 is top of your list. I think the point I'm trying to make here is this; (BTW, I'm indifferent to Brexit and tbh, from a completely short term, selfish perspective, I would prefer we remain, so my stocks and shares could increase, hopefully my house price too and I should hopefully be able to get more $ or Euros for my £ when I go on holiday) 1) Sovereignty is a mass illusion. The politicians that are proclaiming we need to be able to make our own decisions are the ones that took them away in the 1st place. Basically, we all need to accept that we will have to bend over backwards to the demands of USA, EU or China. This has nothing to do with standing up to people or anything, it's very simply, we as a nation have to remain competitive. In that respect the crap £ may be working in our favour. 2) Immigration - Again, I completely understand the argument that the whole of the EU could camp into the UK tomorrow and we couldn't do anything about it, but that hasn't happened and is unlikely to happen and to be honest the way birth rates are decreasing in this country, if we want pensions, we're going to need more people no matter what. Basically, I don't need to read your comments, because, I understand the frustration, but, and I know this is very hippy wishy washy, we all need to hold the politicians accountable for the way they run this country. In-fighting amongst the people is what they want, but with base interest rates at 0.75 and inflation at about 2.5 as well as a falling currency, we actually have negative interest rates, so there's no point having money in the bank, we're less able to buy stuff, slowly but surely, low skilled jobs are disappearing, so no way for the next generation to get onto the job market and just learn basic social skills. Being in the EU hasn't done that. It was our Government's policy at the time to pump money into saving their mate's jobs but cut everything for the plebs. Just to end, I get the anger and frustration, but the majority of it should be at our own lot. Originally posted by davenotamonkey

The wishes of the people are expressed through their Parliament who are chosen to represent them. All of them. Not just a few thousand blue rinse Tories. Not even those who turn up to vote in a referendum or at a GE. All of them. Especially, by the way, those too young to vote. That's why we choose representatives and not delegates as MPs. I have no interest, and nor should you, in the "wishes of his people". Our democracy is vested in our MPs and our Parliament and not in the result of a 3 year old referendum, the issues of which which was barely understood at the time but are much better, though still imperfectly, by the average voter. Parliament will not let this pass, of that I am quite certain. B****cks from a worried man

With respect Jway89....Dave's right, those arguments were had three years ago. I can't say I agree with your take but what's the point with rehashing those particular arguments. We are onto the nitty gritty at the moment.

They really aren't taking this Peoples-Prorogue well, are they? Utterly deranged. I'd ordinarily feel sorry for an evident loon, but I've lost patience: [Tweet Link]

The man's a 'bit bizarre'. I assume he is also a stalker by the reaction to him. Quite likely based on his tweets. Edited by Mapletree (28 Aug 2019 6.37pm)

Who is to say how many children went without for that. The face of Labour. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Aug 2019 6.54pm)

Oh like most things it'll be bad for some and good for some. Most won't be affected that much as most businesses don't trade with the EU....we will no doubt have temporary adjustments in the markets....plenty will be more pleased or offended by the general political direction but how much are things really going to change?.....Still the really invested will will go absolutely ape.....which is something i suppose.
