Just listening to the former head of The Border Control Force on the back stop. He is part of a panel of experts put together by Brexit MPs to solve the Irish border issues. Boris referred to this commission yesterday. So far all positive he worked in Ireland so knows the issues well. His big concern so far is that the EU have refused to engage so if there are issues they have spotted he needs the EU to spell them out. However he answered all the big questions this means to me it is now about politics and then letting the experts get on with the boring implementation bit. The means are there is the political will.

Interesting read. I also noted a little throw away comment by the BBC that we have now completed trade deals with 39 countries. I believe these are with ones who already deals had with the EU so a cut and paste job but some on this board said this would be next to impossible take years etc. It would seem that Mrs May and her team were never serious about planning for life away from the EU with or without a trade deal. I think the current team are showing that whilst there will always be bumps in the road it is not as bad as some fear. I am glad to hear that they are using common-sense sense on border controls. I could never understand the view that we would not be able to import food and medicine to me that would only be true if UK officials and rules snarled up the process. After all if you are a Swiss drug company why would you not want to continue to sale your drugs in the UK? Any delays would have to be down to our side so thankfully someone has recognised this so I don't think it will be a big deal. ***Awaits Wisbech's rebuttal***

Good point, he pointed out that the commission has been to Ireland 3 times and talked to the public and businesses. He also worked on the north south border and has good contacts with his opposite numbers in Eire so has plenty of experience. But yes you are correct any deal has to be agreed by both sides. His main issue which goes to your comment is that currently the EU is stopping all customs officials from discussing a solution. So he was the first to admit that there maybe issues they don't know about but until the EU or more accurately the people who actually do the job sit down with them to discuss the technicalities they won't know. As I previously said he was very confident that if the politicians get out of the way the issues can be resolved by those who actually do the job on both sides. It was on LBC Nigel Farage show if you want to listen to him he wasn't promising unicorns and rainbows just talking common sense.
